Do note though that this bottle doesn’t contain any UV filters, so you’ll still need to use suncream when lying by the pool. We say: Ella Baché Great Sunkiss is formulated with cocoa butter to give you instant radiance while protecting against moisture loss. This one is ideal as a top-up to an existing fake tan, to keep the colour rich and unpatchy for as long as possible. You can build it up every day for a stronger colour but we found maintaining it every other day the best approach for a natural, non-patchy finish. It didn’t stain our fresh white sheets either and scrubbed off easily with exfoliator when it was time for a refresh, making this a good choice for tanning beginners. There’s another bottle targeted at medium to dark skin. Bondi Sands sent me a sample to try (thank you!) and a velvet tanning mitt to apply with. I thoroughly recommend getting the mitt also. Every time I forgot to use the mitt, I inadvertently turned my palms and fingernails yellow. It also allows an even application and feels really nice and soft. Summer has finally arrived and it’s time to get the old legs out. It’s a shame that they’re lily white. A gradual tanning moisturiser is a handy way to get your legs ready, without too much fuss. The fair-skinned among us know that suncream is a must to avoid the dreaded tomato look, which is why we love this two-in-one product from Skinny Tan. It comes in two factors – 30 or 50 – and gradual tans while protecting your skin from harmful rays. How to use: Press down the trigger until the ultra-fine mist is dispensed. Mist skin until completely saturated. It went on smoothly, absorbing well and didn't leave my skin feeling greasy. I couldn't see the colour immediately but it developed nicely over the next few hours and a second application the next day gave me a really good colour that lasted a few days. Because it didn't show straight away I did have a few orangey bits round my ankles where I hadn't rubbed it in properly, so care needs to be takes to really make sure it's gone on evenly. Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Formula Natural Bronze Gradual Tanning Moisturiser (Image: Jess Flaherty/Liverpool ECHO)I’m usually quite good at taking care of my skin and I do often worry about introducing new products in case I have a bad reaction or it results in a breakout. I followed the instructions to the letter and by the next day I had a glowing, natural tan. I continued to use the product for the next several days and have built up a lovely, natural base tan that doesn’t feel or look fake. But I do like a bit of colour on my legs, which look deathly pale when au naturel. I've tried various fake tan moisturisers over the years, and struggled to find one that applies evenly, has staying power and doesn't leave me smelling of biscuits. We say: pureTAN Pure Bronze Gradual Tan SPF15 is enriched with extra virgin coconut oil to keep skin nourished while building a natural tan.

It’s on the pricey side, but if you’ve got the cash or are only tanning for a special occasion or holiday, the quality is unbeatable. There’s a 75ml face cream available for the same price but we see no reason why you couldn’t use this better-value body lotion on your face.If you prefer a deeper fake tan, a gradual tan can also help top up the colour and keep it looking fresh for longer — win! The only downside is the product sadly still has that trademark fake tan biscuit smell and even after vigorously washing my hands after applying it, I was still left with orange palms. I was really impressed with this lotion and it's ideal for building up a gradual tan during the week especially if you're planning to go out at the weekend. It's also available for fair to medium skin tones.

Palmer's Cocoa Butter Formula Natural Bronze Gradual Tanning Moisturiser is a budget friendly tanning option that's easy to add into your daily routine. I woke up with a natural, sun-kissed colour on my pasty pins which gave me a much-needed confidence boost. The colour lasts a few days and I only need to apply it every other day to maintain my desired complexion.I thoroughly recommend Bondi Sands Everyday Gradual Tanning Milk as a pre holiday/summmertime product for warming up body skin colour. It’s easy to use, non fussy, not smelly, doesn’t leave stains everywhere and you get a really good amount of product for your money. Get the Bondi Sands mitt as well, it’s good quality, really soft and will help you get your tan really even. Bondi Sands Gradual Tanner Before and After You say:“I love Ella Bache products and have been a long time user of their body moisturisers, so I was thrilled to test this and also to end up loving it. The smell is so much better than a lot of the tanning products out there in the marketplace and the result is a lovely healthy glow.” – justjo.
