The Dell C3422WE Curved Video Conferencing Monitor isn’t a monitor for everyone. It has specific features built-in for a specific use case, but of course, it can also be used as a general monitor. However, that would waste the monitor’s potential of it being a video conferencing monitor. This is a productivity monitor, and it won’t have all the features that are most sought after by gamers. Ensure that the Teams account is provisioned and setup as 'Teams Only' mode. The tenant administrator should enable the account to 'Teams Only' mode. Ensure that the webcam module is opened. The Mute button’s LED goes dark (indicates microphone unmuted).

Two good alternatives come from Dell itself. The Ultrasharp U3421WE has even better image quality and even more ports at a similar price. It's also a great monitor for professionals who need the best color accuracy possible. Great image quality is a perk, but Dell prices the C3422WE in line with the visually superior Ultrasharp U3421WE, which I recently reviewed. The C3422WE loses that monitor's class-leading color and advanced customization in exchange for a built-in webcam, microphone, and soundbar. Design wise, the Dell C3422WE monitor looks very premium, from the materials Dell chose to build the monitor with. The overall chassis uses aluminum, while the front speaker bar has a textured fabric lining. It really accentuates the working space, and I’m a fan of that. The monitor itself is pretty heavy, even if it’s a 34-inch monitor. The base is wide for better stability, and the stand itself is sturdy with a cutout hole for improved cable management.Ultrathin bezel minimizes the bezel gap during multimonitor usage, enabling easier set-up with an elegant viewing experience

It's a sharp monitor, with a native resolution of 3,440 x 1,440. That works out to 109 pixels per inch, which looks great from a typical viewing distance of three feet. A 4K monitor will look sharper still, but the C3422WE is an impressive upgrade over a typical 1080p monitor. The monitor has two sets of controls, which can be a little confusing. The first set, found on the left side of the soundbar, are touch-sensitive and control the built-in speakers, microphone, and to launch Microsoft Teams. Yes, there's a Microsoft Teams button, and yes, it really does launch the Teams app (if you have it installed).

Display

The Monitor is designed with a Dell Power Button Sync (DPBS) feature to control personal computer system power state from a monitor power button.* Using this Dell C3422WE monitor for the last weeks, I’ve grown to be spoiled with 21:9 aspect ratio monitors. It really is life changing, and the fact that this monitor has video conferencing features built right in, it makes work life all the more easy. Granted not all video conferences are done on Teams, but when they are, I can just activate it with a touch of a button. The monitor has a built-in webcam, microphone, and speaker, all ready for me to join the call. There’s no need to look for any third party accessories, and that truly saves time for me. Change the input color format to PC RGB or YPbPr in the Color Settings On-Screen Display Menu (OSD). Ensure that the video cable connecting the monitor and the computer is properly connected and secure. Unfortunately, the webcam's image quality isn't up to scratch. It's better than most laptops but falls short of a good standalone webcam, like Logitech's C920 HD Pro. Video looks noisy even in a well-lit home office. Adding a ring light helped, but video quality was still worse than a dedicated webcam.

It only covers 87 percent of the DCI-P3 color gamut, a color standard used by many film studios, and its color accuracy isn't at the top of its class. Still, it will meet the needs of photographers and video editors who work primarily on content for YouTube and social media. LG is the main competitor to Dell and has several models that are worth consideration. The LG 34WL850-W and LG 34WK95C-W are slightly less expensive and have even better image quality, though their USB hub connectivity is more limited. LG also has the much more affordable 34WN80C-B, a solid 34-inch ultrawide that's nearly half the C3422WE's price. It's a fantastic choice for home office use.

Video

Certain USB devices like external portable hard drive require a higher electric current; connect the device directly to the computer. The C2422HE, C2722DE, and C3422WE Echo Cancelling Speakerphone output sound output is different when in Zoom and Teams. The volume specification in Zoom and Teams is different for C2422HE, C2722DE, and C3422WE monitors: Ensure that the USB upstream cable (Type-A to Type-B or Type-C to Type-C) is connected from the personal computer to the monitor.

Echo Cancelling Speakerphone and non-Echo Cancelling Speakerphone go through different audio paths. The max volume specification is different by design:The former is for when you’re listening to general stuff like music, movies, and etc. The latter, however, is optimized for video conference calls. That’s right, when in a call, it’s better to use the echo cancelling speakerphone as it does reduces echo, and the mids are higher to accentuate vocals. And that’s essential because you’d need to hear what the person is saying, right? Maximum brightness isn't high, but it's more than adequate for a home office. I used the monitor at 60 percent of maximum during the day and turned it down to 50 percent at night. The monitor's display coating claims to be anti-glare but looks more semi-gloss, so it's best to turn off any bright room lights that sit behind you. The Dell C3422WE doesn't earn the company's Ultrasharp brand label, which it reserves for its most color accurate displays. Yet it remains an impressive display that ranks among the better ultrawide monitors available today.
