And that's who Jake Connelly is. Harvard's star forward is arrogant, annoying and too attractive for his own good. But fate is cruel - I require his help to secure a much-coveted internship, and the sexy jerk isn't making it easy for me. There are things that I still liked. I mean, I genuinely liked Conor. And the way his story unfolded was satisfying. Not my favorite EK hero but I liked him a lot. Taylor's body is a thousand times more appealing to me than, say, Abigail's scrawny one. Women are supposed to be soft and curvy and squeezable. I'm not sure when they were brainwashed into thinking otherwise." first of all, we have the year 2020 can we stop saying how women are "suppose" to be. second, stop trying to lift someone up by dragging someone else down. that's not it.

H rating: 4 stars. Jake I liked him. He was a sweet, sexy guy who had a good head on his shoulders.Except three months into our friendship, Demi is single and looking for a rebound. And she’s making a play for me. And this is where the book started to derail for me a little bit. Don't me wrong, there were some really hilarious and fun dialogue in this book. Some hot and steamy ones, too. But the romance started to become a side plot instead of the main plot. There were scenes in the book where I was just confused because it did not move the story along. I suspect those scenes were added to set up the next book and introduce new characters but it felt like a detour and that really put a damper on the developing romance between Fitzy and Summer. It was a bit disappointing that we're just told about what's happening with their push-and-pull instead of witnessing it because we had to make a detour to some party to introduce these characters who might appear in future books. I didn't mind it but I wanted more Fitz and Summer! Another standout is a new character that could have easily gone so wrong & would send readers into major apoplexy but for me, this character's addition worked. Except three months into our friendship, Demi is single and looking for a rebound. And she's making a play for me. The Let's Keep It a Secret for No Good Reason trope. I get not telling the teammates, her father or whoever. But Brenna not telling Summer just because "she would just tell Fitz" makes it sound like Summer is a terrible friend and, as far as I remember, she was not.

She brings out a growly, primal side of me I hadn’t known existed until she showed up and started driving me batshit crazy. Brenna was the character that I loved the most in The Chase already. She is still badass and I loved how she always challenges herself to keep trying to make her dream come true even though it's a constant fight against those who think all things related to sports are a field for men only. However she kinda fell too often in the "I'm not like the other girls" narrative. Both in the way she refers to herself and in the way Jake sees her. Why can't it be "she likes this thing" instead of it being "everyone likes that thing but she likes this one instead". I'm honestly tired of seeing characters shine over the general population for liking something else. Everyone has different preferences, it's normal and it doesn't have to involve making somebody else who likes something Mainstream look bad (especially when the contrast is between The Other Girls who like Girly and Feminine stuff and the main character who's tough and doesn't mind getting their hands dirty or whatever). I'm sorry this point is so long it just annoys me...I enjoyed this book for the most part. This was insanely readable, at least for me it was. I could not put this book down. Summer was a really fun and refreshing character. She's unabashedly feminine and makes no apologies for loving clothes, makeup, reality shows, and other feminine coded things that are usually considered as negatives in romance heroines. But this is exactly why I enjoyed her character. Summer was fun and hilarious. She had her insecurities, which I will get into a little bit, but overall, I love Summer. As Jake and Brenna begin to spend time together, they are both surprised to find that they actually enjoy each other’s company. It’s obvious that there is something there, something worth exploring. Their bond grows stronger, trust is beginning to form, and Jake proves to Brenna the sort of man he really is, a man that can be there for her when she needs him. Secrets are shared, and real feelings come in to play. But is it enough? Their teams are rivals. Their friends are enemies. And Jake is graduating and moving away. Brenna has one year left. This was a slow burn to beat all slow burn. The delicious push and pull between these two was EVERYTHING. Their banter and chemistry was like a fire that just burned hotter and hotter with each chapter.
