I liked the new characters which Liz Pichon introduced. They added something new and different which didn't make reading the series so dull to read. Ih I fell doI was until adn’t realized how high up wn. . . . It was pretty i m p ressive, really . . . . Delia heard me YELP as I hit the ground. She came over and just watched me as I rolled around on the ground in pain, holding my arm. Ha! It fe l t R E A L LY bad b ut D e l ia d id n ’t Ha! look too concerned. Freak! Eventually she got Mom. 24 However, I did like how their was a bully in the story. It gave the novel a feeling of realism and something that all kids experience at some point. I'm a turtle On the way home, I see posters for my favorite band, , all over town. Even this doesn’t cheer me up. Derek does his best to make me laugh. But all I can think about is Amy calling me an idiot (harsh) and Marcus calling us losers. “Look on the bright side,” Derek says. But when I ask Derek what the bright side actually is . . . he doesn’t know. “It’s a saying.” Great. I’ll have to think of a way to make it up to Amy, which is not going to be easy. 40 This is my kind of book: hilarious, enjoyable and very creative. The author kept me hooked throughout with the funny plots and cleverly drawn illustrations – which to me is what makes this series of books. One of the many plots I found enjoyable was when one of the characters, Buster Jones, draws all over the class cabinet where all the teachers’ faces were and drew moustaches, fangs and horns on them. I also loved the bit where Tom draws a picture of his teacher, Mr Fullerman, with a big bottom and calls him “Mr FullerBUM”. The characters were spot on and reminded me of people in my old school. A great read. I cant WAIT for the next one. Good things:

THE END Someone called Buster Jones gets detention but it gets longer and longer because he does silly things such as climbing out the window to escape the detention and then drawing rude graffiti of the teachers.

Top Of The Class (Nearly) is the ninth Tom Gates book and is a delightful read for younger children. I have never read a Tom Gates book before, but I dived headfirst into book 9, incredibly impressed by the fantastic layout of this book. It’s filled with tons of different fonts and different font sizes, there’s drawings of the characters in various situations and it feels like it’s interactive (even though it isn’t). It’s fully immersive and that’s incredible. A Mnd if that’s not bad enough, arcus SOMeldrew IS the most annoying boy in the whole sc h ool . H e i s nosy and thinks he knows everything. The Tapper Twins Go to War (With Each Other) by Geoff Rodkey and its sequel are forming themselves into a brilliant series for the same age group – and for those with the same brief visual attention span. This is the place to learn about all the brilliant things happening for Tom Gates — 2021 is an epic year for Tom, his family and friends! This book was very creative, fun and enjoyable to read. The front of the book is very colourful and imaginative. Not so good things:I'm TRYING to get voted onto the school council as well - but thanks to the ABOVE list it's not exactly going to plan.

I really enjoyed the book.Tom Gate’s books always have lots of unexpected twists.My favorite part was when Tom and his family figured out that they were staying in the wrong place. It is a really good fiction book. Tom Gates: Top of the Class (Nearly) is the 9th Tom Gates book and follows Tom as he runs for the school council and TRIES to be top of the class. As per usual things don’t quite go according to plan… If only Tom could follow his own TOP tips for being Top of the Class! 1. Stay awake in lessons (it helps.) 2. Don’t draw HILARIOUS pictures of your teachers. 3. AVOID the class bully to stay out of trouble. 4. Don’t let Mum and Dad write ANYTHING in your school planner. . Don’t let your grumpy sister Delia BOSS you around. (Technically not a school issue - but still important.) You don’t actually need to even have read the previous 8 books, because this reads easily by itself (although I WILL be reading the previous 8 books simply because of how amazing this one was). 8-12 year old children will absolutely gobble this up - it’s so easy to digest, with tons of learning opportunities for new words to extend kids’ vocabulary.
