Once upon a time a greedy family of L'Oreal, cannibalizing everything that the genius of YSL had raised on the field of haute parfumerie, during the shorts breaks between dancing on the bones of Opium and Kouros, somehow went wrong and elaborated the perfume of beauty, strength and appeal, La Nuit de l'Homme. A designer version of BDK's gris charnel without the intricacies of the plum and tea notes, which make GS so enticing, but gives off the same vibe with a similar DNA. The simple fix for longevity is using it in conjunction with Essentric Molecule 01 which extends its duration to a satisfactory 7 to 9 hours.

One of my favorite things about this one is that it doesn't project too hard or leave much of a sillage. If you think perfume can fix your graphic tee, cargo shorts, sandals, and sexual frustrations then I want you to avoid this powdery slightly spicy gem. As many have already written, the performance is its main flaw, the longevity reaches about 6 hours and the sillage is intimate, so its appropriate use is probably for romantic dates. I do wish this had a little more power to it but I understand that this is a skin scent for intimate scenarios. Dislike the guy now, still love this scent, and all the girls that smelt me whilst I used the fragrance LOVED this scent so much.

The blast of sexy cardamom mixing with the lavender is so sexy, it's clean and strong, slight creaminess too and this also hits you in the face with a freshness as if you've just stepped out of the shower. It's akin to a well-tailored suit that's sharp and clean-cut, yet doesn't quite wrap you in the warmth of a comforting embrace. To me it is still a really solid fragrance you cant go wrong with and still my most complimented one. From the onset, generic nose hair singeing synthetic grapefruit dominates the deeper, denser, supposedly top notes.

I also think this easily is wearable in the spring time, since it has such a clean feel to it, although it's an intense fragrance. Dominique Ropion is a very talented perfumer but I get the feeling that every time a big hitter comes on the selves what has preceded is a conversation of the sort “throw a few pleasant aromachemicals, make it a tad sweet, polish the angles to the point of dullness and let’s throw it in the market to see what happens”. The scent is tinged with a smokiness from the leather, but I couldn't pick this note clearly on first impression. I repurchased a new 100 ml bottle in 2023 and the scent is still the same, but more "powdery" and kind of lighter.

After around 2-3 hours the sexy cardamom dries down and you're left with that punchy sexy fresh spicy soapiness probably coming from that Vetiver and caraway. There's some fresh notes such as grapefruit and lavender which cut through the sweet tonka, cardamon and leather base. The fragrance dissipated within an hour, leaving no trace of the spicy cinnamon notes that initially seemed so promising.

I can’t speak to longevity because I’m writing this about 40 mins after spraying it but even if it only lasts a couple hours I’ll be fine with it. Her exact words from inside the bar (a good 4-6 feet away) were, "omg what kind of cologne are you wearing?

I recently tried this fragrance and although I usually avoid those with excessive marketing claims, I gave this one a chance because it was made by a talented perfumer. I can't see anyone who tried a few fragrances in his life giving this a bad rating considering all the points I mentioned above. I find myself grabbing my bottle and sniffing the atomizer just to smell it again because its so addictive.
