Description

P.G. Bell is a native of south Wales, where he was raised on a diet of Greek mythology, ghost stories, and Doctor Who. He's had all sorts of jobs over the years, from lifeguard to roller coaster operator, but has always wanted to write stories. He lives in Wales with his wife Anna, and their two children. This is a humorous, spectacular book by the most talented,PG Bell. It begins with this curious, intelligent girl called Suzy Smith who has a great passion in physics. Oddly, one day a huge train (The Impossible Postal Express, which is ran by Trolls) was right in the middle of the living room. Suzy then jumps on board and discovers herself as the new recruit! On the way Suzy witnesses unimaginative realms which were higher than anything. She was now part of the mission, which is delivering secret parcels to the most Impossible Places ever seen. Suddenly, Suzy realises she’s a long way from home... Suzy then finds that the fate of The amazing Impossible Places are now in her hands!

A middle-grade fantasy and nonstop adventure, The Train to Impossible Places by debut author P. G. Bell is as fun as it is full of heart, and the first book of a trilogy. Objectively, this had all if the ingredients for a great story, but I couldn’t really connect with it. I found myself quite bored even if the adventure was thrilling. When a poison tide flowing across the ocean threatens their island, Roz works with the resident creatures to ensure that they will have clean water, but the destruction of vegetation and crowding of habitats jeopardize everyone’s survival. Brown’s tale of environmental depredation and turmoil is by turns poignant, graceful, endearing, and inspiring, with his (mostly) gentle robot protagonist at its heart. Though Roz is different from the creatures she lives with or encounters—including her son, Brightbill the goose, and his new mate, Glimmerwing—she makes connections through her versatile communication abilities and her desire to understand and help others. When Roz accidentally discovers that the replacement body given to her by Dr. Molovo is waterproof, she sets out to seek help and discovers the human-engineered source of the toxic tide. Brown’s rich descriptions of undersea landscapes, entertaining conversations between Roz and wild creatures, and concise yet powerful explanations of the effect of the poison tide on the ecology of the island are superb. Simple, spare illustrations offer just enough glimpses of Roz and her surroundings to spark the imagination. The climactic confrontation pits oceangoing mammals, seabirds, fish, and even zooplankton against hardware and technology in a nicely choreographed battle. But it is Roz’s heroism and peacemaking that save the day. P.G. Bell author of The Train to Impossible Places and The Great Brain Robbery is on board a traveling post office (just like the Impossible Postal Express) to introduce you to the main characters of the Train to Impossible Places adventures.

I also really enjoyed all of the characters and following their journey throughout the story. P.G.Bell really has a way of developing his characters in a way that the reader can build up a connection. Leaving them wanting more and more. There is normally a character in a book, especially a middle-grade that tends to irritate me. Not in this book. Obviously I didn't like the bad guys but the other characters I really enjoyed. This was a cute and really imaginative middle grade read that took me on quite a ride. The beginning was a little bit of a slow start for me, but once the story gained some speed it became a book I didn't want to put down. Book Genre: Academic, Adventure, Childrens, Fantasy, Fiction, Juvenile, Magic, Middle Grade, Railways, School, TrainsAn exciting, imaginative, wild ride of a story that never lets up for a moment. The Impossible Places are wonderful new worlds and I loved everything about this debut - the characters, the ideas and the twists in the tale. Bravo! (8+) A fantastic addition to the series! My son loved reading this one and is excited to read the next one in the series.

The Train to Impossible Places by P.G. Bell | Goodreads

As a writer, I like to read others works, well actually it is a must, a bit like doing homework but only nice. This book works so well - the characters are a delight and in some senses challenge the normal flow of perception. I think any open mind can have great fun reading this, no matter the age. It also has a message, like the best books do, about truth and consequences, right and wrong which even had me thinking. This isn't laboured or intrusive in any way but thought provoking if you or your younger reader are so inclined. Armistice Day: A Collection of Remembrance - Spark Interest and Educate Children about Historical MomentsI listened to the audiobook and I think I will continue listening to them (yes I will be continuing with the series). It’s not every day that a magical train drives through your hallway but that’s what happens to Suzy at the opening of this terrific adventure story. She discovers it’s the Impossible Postal Express, responsible for making deliveries throughout the Union of Impossible Places. Being something of a scientist, and deeply inquisitive, Suzy can’t let this opportunity pass and climbs aboard. It’s not long before she’s been deputized as a Postal Operative (by the troll in charge), which in turn embroils her in an even bigger adventure, and one of those magical good versus evil power struggles that are central to all the best fantasy adventures. This rattles along at top-speed and features one of the most varied cast of characters since Hogwarts welcomed young Potter. Fans of magical stories mustn’t miss this train! I am pleased to be providing a review for ‘The Train to Impossible Places’, which is one of my Top 5 books of the year and another fantastic debut & first book of a brand new series by P.G Bell. One night, Suzy is startled when the train to impossible places makes a pit stop through her house. With her parents asleep, Suzy joins the troll crew of the train on an adventure that will change the course of her life forever. A train that travels through impossible places. A boy trapped in a snow globe. And a girl who’s about to go on the adventure of a lifetime.

Wonderfully inventive: Think a Middle Grade Hitchhikers Guide rolled up with more than a splash of Narnia. Throw some pretty sophisticated political... Well I have never read and of this authors work before, so if like me you are hesitant, then don't be as this is a lovely fast paced fun adventure story that would be great for family reading or light bedtime enjoyment. I loved the original plot, as well as the twists and turns that kept me going to the end and did not disappoint. The story really does take you on a train ride to adventure, at a great pace, so much so I just really had to force myself to put it down to get on with my own story writing. Sure signs that the creative wells are running dry at last, the Captain’s ninth, overstuffed outing both recycles a villain (see Book 4) and offers trendy anti-bullying wish fulfillment.
