Description

Examples of such creatures include the orc war chief, hobgoblin captain, hobgoblin warlord, and knight, among many others. These creatures typically possess the Leadership action, or otherwise have some method of inspiring or rallying a horde. Commander Features It was a real shame, because I had a fantastic time painting Arkhan. To have the experience soured at the very last hurdle was sorely disappointing. Conditional Immunities. The horde gains immunity to the following conditions: charmed, frightened, grappled, paralyzed, poisoned, petrified, prone, restrained, stunned, and unconscious. Arkhan and Razarak took me (that is, a reasonably competent, middle-of-the-road painter with not a huge amount of experience) around five days to get him looking like this. Since the Contrasts are all for intents and purposes glorified inks, and they work by staining on the high areas and gathering in the low areas, the color of primer underneath is just there to facilitate that. As long as the primer is light enough, the Contrasts at least in my opinion tend to "overcome" most of the differences between like a light gray primer vs. a light tan primer or white primer.

need to end my brush stroke against an edge or recess, and need to tip the brush upside down before taking away from the surface to create a well for the excess paint to flow into I've got a bunch of models on my gaming table right now that I painted over the past month where I used tan primers and also a bunch I did using Wraithbone, White, etc. I'll try to get some pictures taken and will post them here so you can actually see some examples and see if you can tell any major difference. Yes indeed, sounds like you've got a good starting point of info. to work from. I think it's true about the Contrasts, a lot of the lighter ones like Skeleton Horde, Plaguebearer's Green, etc. would work at full strength over Zenithal pretty well. Would be the darker Contrasts you would need to dilute.Vallejo Desert Tan is interesting because I thought it would darken the Contrast colors more, but it actually didn't. Same goes for another Vallejo primer I didn't mention, Skeleton Bone.

Overall, I really enjoyed the opportunity to paint each of the Traitor Legions, and I’ve added a new skill to my hobby arsenal. I’m very keen now to begin another new Legion, and hopefully, with what I’ve learned in the last few weeks I can speed paint an army to readiness and still maintain a great finishing standard. Tally damage done to any member of the horde in a single tally. Any time that tally is higher than the hit points of a single monster, remove a monster. Round monster hit points to the nearest 5 or 10 to make the math easier. The DC for this saving throw is equal to 8 + the horde's proficiency bonus + the horde's Strength modifier. Skill Training This boney boy was part of a whole band of mates – the box came with a whopping 24 figures, in fact. Each sprue had enough parts to make four individual warriors with lots of head, arm and weapon options. This box of undead horrors marks the moment that Warhammer began to shift from a roleplaying game towards one about armies clashing in grand battles. You can’t create all three models from one box, but if you choose the style that you prefer for the mount, you can then magnetize the 3 riders having all three options available. The skeleton horse is an undead mob that is initially neutral, but become passive after their rider is killed. Skeleton horses behave like normal horses, roaming idly and occasionally stopping to rear, swish their tails, or lower their heads as though eating the grass. Unlike sheep, the eating animation does not actually cause any grass to be consumed. Skeleton horses can breathe in water. Regarding zenithal: I keep reading that it supposedly works very well with Contrast colors. I assume you have to dillute them a bit for that purpose. So it is something I would try with bigger miniatures and bigger surfaces, where Contrasts themselves would seem to be less efficient. Regiments I will probably undercoat with a single color, depending on the miniatures. Death Guard: The Death Guard are a faction of Chaos Space Marines with a decayed and rotting appearance. Skeleton Horde can be used as a base color to represent the exposed bone and skeletal structures of their armor and weaponry. Bronze details got Army Painter True Copper (you can swap it for GW Balthasar Gold), a wash of Agrax Earthshade, and a highlight of Canoptek Alloy. Leather details were basecoated with Zandri Dust, washed with Snakebite Leather contrast, and highlighted with Baneblade Brown. For the both fur colors, I started with a basecoat of Grey Seer. Brown fur got hit with Aggaros Dunes and drybrushed with Screaming Skull. White fur got Apothecary White and a VERY careful drybrush of White Scar.

I've got lots of models I painted with Contrasts over the past year, and I honestly can't tell or remember what primer I used! Overall verdict on the Start Collecting Skeleton Horde box Which models are included in the Start Collecting Skeleton Horde Box? They can be ridden in water in any depth. Skeleton horses sink in the water and can be ridden along the ocean or river floor.

The Design

There are many imperfect ways to run huge hordes of monsters in D&D—situations in which the characters face twenty or more monsters in a single battle. They all require some level of abstraction from our standard combat rules. Some are simpler than others. Some use tables, others you can do in your head. You may have your own preference while other DMs have theirs. The Tamiya gray spray primer is so light that it practically qualifies as being white. It's actually whiter than GW's Corax White even though its labeled as a gray primer, lol. Skeleton horses, in common with other undead mobs, take damage when affected by a Potion of Healing and are healed by a Potion of Harming. They are also affected by the Smite enchantment. Mix hordes with normal creatures. While running multiple types hordes can be difficult, a single horde can work well when mixed with normal single creatures. A horde of fifty orcs might be led by an orc war chief and four armored ogres. You can run the war chief and the ogres as individual creatures like normal and the horde using the guidelines above. It will make for a complicated fight but it isn't out of the question. Use evocative narration to describe the characters' heroic battle against huge hordes of enemies. Hordes are there to show off the might and heroism of the characters.

Demonic Banner (requires attunement by a creature of evil alignment). As a bonus action while you are holding the banner, you can grant the boon of a demon lord upon each creature of your choice within 30 feet of you, which lasts until the start of your next turn. See the Demonic Boon table for the variants of this banner, and the effects of the boons. Demonic Boons Demon Lord Horde Turn Resistance. The horde has advantage on saving throws against any effect that turns undead. Additionally, the horde can be affected by the Destroy Undead feature regardless of CR limits, but has advantage on the saving throw against it and is not destroyed on a failed save. Instead, it takes radiant damage equal to 10 × the cleric's level on a failed save, or half as much damage on a success. This section details some optional rules that DMs can use with hordes. They cover a variety of situations, from interactions with effects that can affect many creatures to individual creatures that survive the destruction of a horde. Area of Effects and Many Targets His bones – that is, his face and hands, for example – were painted the same way as the bones on Razarak, whilst the patterns on his clothes and armour, which were based once more with Zandri Dust, were heavily washed with Seraphim Sepia instead of Agrax Earthshade and highlighted with Ushabti Bone and Tyrant Skull once again. The lighter, warmer colour left by the Seraphim Sepia wash meant the patterns on Arkhan’s armour look clean and deliberate; Agrax Earthshade or Nuln Oil would be too harsh and dark.

Arkhan is a powerful wizard: he can cast up to 4 spells per round when at full health and can power-up nearby Death mages.
