Description

Nowadays, the ingenious AeroPress has achieved an almost cult-like following, with some users even claiming that it brews the best coffee in the world. Whether such claims can be substantiated or not, it can’t be denied that the AeroPress is a hit. Such is its popularity that it boasts of a highly competitive and prestigious global competition—the World AeroPress Championship (WAC). Metal and cloth ones require a bit more time to set up, brew coffee and clean properly. 3. Your Personal Preference For Cleaning The best aeropress filters are ones that work within your budget, and produce the taste you desire, or avoid producing an aftertaste or flavor addition you don’t. I love this short, intense espresso-like drink, which was cribbed from a recipe promoted during the COVID pandemic by coffee guru James Hoffman. There is a similar recipe on the Concetto Youtube video I mentioned, which uses even less liquid and has a faster brew time, but I have found that the Hoffman-inspired version gives better results. It works amazingly well with our Colombian beans grown by Paola Trujillo, making a rich, jammy, smooth coffee with lingering, sweet fruit flavours that reminded me of dark wine gums!

If you wanted to combine a larger metal filter and a paper filter to try and get the best of both worlds, it’s theoretically possible. How Many Times Can I Use An Aeropress Filter? Impressively, the cup had little-to-no sediments. If anything, it was almost as clean as the control paper brew. The coffee was also noticeably stronger and richer than the other metal filters—yet nearly as clean as the paper filters. It seems the Koffi Mesh Filter kept grinds at bay while allowing oils to pass through. This created a balanced cup with the clean finish of a paper filter and the richness of a metal filter. In contrast to the 'Fine' disc and the Aeropress own-brand version, the Concetto Superfine disc is specifically suited to making a longer 200 ml drink, and as a good starting point I would recommend the second recipe below (it's a nice way to highlight our other current Colombian coffee, San Sebastian. It's a much gentler hit than the face-melter above, but has delicious tangerine flavour, delicate acidity and a chocolatey sweetness). With this technique you are swapping out the paper filter for a metal version, but not having to adapt your usual Aeropress technique too much in doing so. You do, however, have to use the 'inverted' method described above. The result will be a different experience, giving a more full-bodied drink with wilder flavours than the paper allows, but sacrificing the 'clarity' that many coffee lovers crave. It might blow you away and you'll never use another paper filter again, or you might find that it's an alternative take that complements the brews you are used to. Either way, I still like the idea of making lots of tiny, sustainable changes that might accumulate into something more meaningful. But that also means a lot of coffee particles and rather concerning coffee oils like diterpenes are more likely to slip through the filters into your cup of Joe. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ugkgalRtaY Video can’t be loaded because JavaScript is disabled: Review of the KoHi Fabric Metal Filter (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ugkgalRtaY)Make two large or three small espresso style cups. Can also be used as a tea press or alternatively a serving jug, simply remove the plunger. 24oz / 680ml capacity. Well, you must be thinking of the sediments problem that plague all AeroPress metal filters. But, ameuus filters are actually a lot better at filtering out loose coffee grounds than other competitors due to their smaller filter hole sizes. SIMPLE LIVING. SUSTAINABLE COFFEE DRINKING – Save on 1000s of paper filters and contribute to a greener planet. The Aeropress is made to use paper filters. However, the metal filters on the market for Aeropress were designed for the Aeropress, so there’s not much incompatibility.

AeroPress paper filters will give you a nice, clean cup of coffee with very little sediment if there’s any at all. Since 2005, there have been 8 versions of the Aeropress made, so paper filters might be more compatible with all 8 designs, as opposed to metal filters that are more rigid in size.

They’re made of something similar to crepe paper, and they’re heavy enough they can be washed and reused.

However, cloth ones require the most cleaning of all three types of AeroPress filters. So if ease of cleaning is your priority, you can just skip the AeroPress cloth filter. We also decided to carry an 'unofficial' metal filter disc for Aeropress made by a Glasgow-based company called Concetto (it comes in two sizes, Fine and Superfine) which I have been using for the last 18 months, with great success. Aside from those, AeroPress metal filters and cloth filters are also pretty common-place. 1. Paper Filters – The Classic Choice for an AeroPress The grind of your coffee should be medium to coarse: make sure it is not too fine because this can get through the mesh filter of the cafetière.These filters are engineered to let every drop of coffee oil through, without letting any of the grounds through. They only come 3 to a box. but they are likely to last long enough to make up for the cost and small amount. Which Filters Are Most Affordable? With all the factors that should be considered for choosing the best Aeropress coffee filter, it can be difficult to identify exactly which filter is best for you. For a combination of clarity and robustness, you might want to give the cloth coffee filters a test run.

If you like to vary the flavor and strength depending on your day, a set of metal filters with varying sizes could be the best choice.

Environment (Sustainability): Based on eco-friendliness, metal filters come out as the clear winners. Sure, paper filters can be composted—but how many of you living in a city find that practical? Additionally, many paper filters (like those included with the AeroPress) are bleached using chemicals. Every choice has pros and cons, so you should explore your options until you hit on exactly the right choice for you. Can I Combine Filters? Cloth filters aren’t that common, so it’s easier to compare paper and metal. Comparisons of key features include: Influence on Taste For example, the Aeropress Go is 1/3 smaller than the regular Aeropress, meaning that a metal filter that is perfect for the Aeropress may not fit the Aeropress Go. Are There Other Aeropress Filters?
