Once you have your fresh peppers, you also have the option of freezing them to make the paprika later. I got these peppers in late summer when things were very busy on my farm. I froze them for winter, when I tend to spend more time inside the house. You can freeze peppers whole. I just toss them into big Ziploc bags and put them in the freezer. They turn out just fine. I’ve done this with many kinds of peppers. It can be extremely hard to deter cats once they have started doing it, but don’t give up! Can you make homemade cat repellent?

Able to be placed in either the lawn or flowerbeds, these silhouettes won’t damage your garden. They can be spread around your garden to protect all areas, and left outside in all weathers thanks to the durable powder coating. As far as maintenance goes, there isn’t any! Like the other repellents I’ve mentioned, this pepper-based deterrent is welfare-friendly. It won’t harm animals and simply deters them. The bottle is fitted with a shaker cap which makes it easy to distribute the dust in the garden.

10. Vinegar and Lime Juice

Do not work with oven cleanerson an unprotected countertop. Wipe spills away promptly and rinse several times with water. Fresh peppers. There are many types of peppers that can be used to make paprika. The type of pepper that you choose will determine the flavor and the heat of your paprika. Hungarian hot peppers can be used if you like things to be super spicy. For the batch of paprika that I made, I used about 12 alma peppers (also sometimes known as the Hungarian “apple” pepper or “tomato” pepper). The alma comes in both sweet or hot varieties. I used sweet. This repellent is safe for both humans and animals. It has a PIR motion sensor that detects movement and triggers the ultrasonic sound. The sensor range is between 6 and 8 m, covering a 110° arc in front of the unit.

To make a strong solution, mix one cup of white vinegar with two cups apple cider vinegar. Place it in a spray bottle and mist any desired areas, indoors or out. 3. Mustard Oil

If you want to keep cats out of your garden in a humane and safe way, here are some tips to help you deter wandering felines, including plants that keep cats away, ideas for homemade cat repellent and some tips for finding the best cat repellent for your garden. These strips are made from hard plastic and it’s advised you wear gloves whilst fitting them. They are available in different sizes so should be able to fit any fence or wall that you may require fitting them too. They are an excellent deterrent for all sorts of animals including cats, foxes, birds & even humans! Grinding peppers. I’m sure that a mortar and pestle were traditionally used for this part of the paprika process. I am sure that this would still work. But I cheated and I tossed my dried peppers into my food processor, using the “grind” setting. I let it grind until the powder was as fine as I wanted it to be. This is the point where I was staring at my Cuisinart saying, “WOW! I made paprika!!” I was feeling extremely Hungarian! The invalidity of all or a part of any of the provisions of the Limited Warranty shall not affect or invalidate any other provision of the Limited Warranty. So, this year I sliced the peppers up and I put them in my food dehydrator. This worked great!! Dry them really well, until they are hard. You don’t want them to be squishy at all or they won’t grind well. You may want to put your dehydrator out in the garage or basement while the peppers are drying if you are sensitive to peppers, and especially if you are using hot peppers. The air does get heavily filled with pepperiness while they are drying. Personally, I really like it when my house reeks of peppers. It’s like Hungarian air freshener! But it’s not for everyone!

The strips don't hurt animal intruders, but simply discourage them from climbing. You can get them in unobtrusive colours to blend in neatly in your garden. Fixing lines of string along the top of fences is a cheaper, if less effective deterrent. While it can’t stop a cat jumping over, it does make it harder for them to walk along the top. If you’ve taken away the most obvious food source and you’re still having an issue with cats in your garden, this is when you may need to up the ante. Humane repellents are a great solution, deterring the animal without harming them. Some ultrasonic cat repellents will allow you to select the frequency yourself, so you can change the frequency to target specific animals. PIR Motion Sensors Any cat owner will know that our feline friends have a reputation for being a little fussy. For this reason, there’s a lot of cat repellents on the market that work well. The Pestbye® Battery Operated Cat Repellent are a set of ultrasonic cat deterrents with a slightly different design compared to many others on the market. At this point you may be excited about your paprika too. But BE CAREFUL ! Don’t open the lid to your food processor right away. Go do something else for a while and let it sit! I made the mistake of opening mine right away and the super fine pepper dust blew into my face, burning my eyes and lips. This didn’t feel great and would have been worse with hot peppers! Let the dust settle. Or open it outside so the breeze blows the fine dust away from you. Once the area is clean, apply a liberal dusting of Pepper Dust on the plants and surrounding area. Pepper Dust can be used all year round. Repeat twice a week or after rain or high winds. This product by Defenders is a simple yet effective way of deterring cats from visiting your garden and fouling or spreading their scent. You can place it where ever you regularly spot the offending animals. It’s a product that can be used throughout the whole year but it’s best used in dry weather, as wet conditions or even wind can impact its effectiveness, so it’s recommended that you re-apply it should your garden be impacted by any of these conditions.

Perfect for outdoor use, this cat repellent has a waterproof IPX4 rating. The hard plastic shell is very durable, so it can be used in winter as well as summer. It doesn’t need to be installed in a sheltered area, and it can be either hung on an object or mounted into the ground.

While some ultrasonic repellers use a gradually increasing frequency, or a rhythmically fluctuating frequency, this cat repellent uses a HRF (HyperResonance) frequency. This jumps between frequency levels, providing a short, sharp burst of surprising sound to the visiting animal. This means that cats and other unwanted visitors are less likely to get used to the sound of this cat repellent. It’s also, therefore, reasonably effective at scaring them away. Overall, this cat repellent is very good value for money. While not perfect, it does a good job and is a low cost option. One thing to note is that regular application is needed, especially if it rains. You may also find that insects (such as bees) are deterred from your garden too.
