Like most of JBL’s Bluetooth speakers, the JBL PartyBox 710 is straightforward to use. You don’t need the app for the 710 to work, but pairing it with the app gives you the best experience and provides software updates. Using this without the app setup is as simple as powering the 710 on and pushing the Bluetooth button. But now let's talk about the light feature on this speaker, cause in general… JBL has some very impressive light features. Now for starter’s you can control this light feature from JBL’s Partybox app. And this light feature is an upgraded version of the light feature found on the 110. As in the light rings that surround the woofers are conjoined… unlike the light rings on the 310 which are separated. But the 710 also has additional colored LED’s imbedded into its face which does give it like a star effect… and there’s also these colored LED strips on either side which aren’t found on the these other Partybox’s. Overall, the light feature on the 710 looks amazing… but personally I really wish the tweeters also had light rings around them. I don’t know… I just really like the look of the illuminated tweeters on the 110. The Partybox 1000 was one of the first Partyboxes JBL came out with, and it’s still on its first generation. Not everyone will need or even want such a massive speaker, but if you do then the JBL Partybox 710 is seriously cool, it’s one of the most powerful JBL speakers there is. It won’t just fill the room with sound, it’ll fill the whole house. In view of the dimensions and performance of the JBL ParyBox 710, it is clear that a rechargeable battery is not sufficient for operation. This solution can only be operated directly from the mains, which should be mentioned for the sake of completeness.

But if you want to have more speakers paired together like I did… then you’re going to have daisy chain them. And also keep in mind, you can not wirelessly pair a Partybox 710 up to any of JBL’s smaller party boost speakers. So if you have a JBL Boombox 2, Xtreme 3, JBL Charge 5, Flip 5, or JBL Pulse 4… they won’t connect to your Partybox. JBL is an audio brand with loads of fantastic speakers to its name, from the tiny JBL Go 3 to the small but mighty JBL Charge 5 and the weather-resistant JBL Xtreme 3 - JBL features heavily in T3’s guide to the best Bluetooth speakers. The JBL Partybox 710 is a whole different ball game though, it’s a huge piece of kit with equally huge sound and it even boasts an impressive RGB light show. And it needs all that space to house the speakers: 1 x compression tweeter, 2 x 7″ Mid-Range speakers, and a huge 1 x 12″ down firing subwoofer.

The whole device seems built to last, it’s robust and even has an IPX4 rating which means it’ll survive splashes of water so it should be safe from accidents. The JBL PartyBox 710 presents itself as a very powerful solution, it is transportable but certainly not suitable to be taken along all the time. You definitely have to grip it a little tighter. That all adds up to 1100 watts of face melting power – that stays clean and distortion free, even at max volume. (That can’t be said for other brands I’ve tried.) All of the materials used for construction are solid and of excellent quality; this speaker does not feel cheap in any way.
