Description
The first book teaches how to insert knots, twists, cubes, holes, craters etc into your basic bodice. Well, I’m not too happy with the result, but probably I could make it work by editing the pattern some more. by cutting and opening out the pattern, but a flare that is subtly concealed on the underside of the fabric. All the basic information you need to start pattern cutting is included, from the basic block to measurements and scaling.
I am NOT a pattern maker and only an intermediate, but intrepid, sewist so actually reading through this book really stretches my sewing imagination. Each project is beautifully illustrated with clear diagrams and photographs showing the stages of construction, the muslins, and the finished garments. I would be lying if I said these books are good for a beginner as you need some knowledge of pattern cutting and sewing to be able to use and understand the processes required to make the designs. We build and maintain all our own systems, but we don’t charge for access, sell user information, or run ads. I can imagine many of the designs makingup a part of a red carpet outfit or to be worn at a Sunday brunch just by using different fabrics. Our resources are crucial for knowledge lovers everywhere—so if you find all these bits and bytes useful, please pitch in. Taking inspiration from nature, from geometric shapes, and from the street, this book harnesses the sheer joy of making and sculpting clothes. In the series, Tomoko Nakamichi has written4books, 3 which usewoven fabrics and one of which usesstretch fabrics. This and the top above are just two of many designs in the books that can be incorporated with other ideas or can be used to create a feature for a simple garment.

Sometimes the pieces can look so distorted or they are so intricate that you will need all the markings you can get to sew them together in fabric. I haven't yet tried to scale any of the patterns up and make them myself, but this book is great to get ideas from for making your own unconventional patterns. That way you have the possibility to make all kinds of different versions of your own using the various techniques explained.
The books contain instructions on drafting a basic Bunka-style sloper, which is a bit different from the ones I normally use.Having made a few of these designs, my advice would be toalways label your pattern pieces, use more notches than you've ever used before and numberthe corresponding notches. It looks like play but the success of each design relies upon the precise measurements of the basic simple garment being manipulated. However, I haven’t encountered problems using a basic bodice pattern of my own with the darts placed a bit differently. I consider myself an above-average pattern maker for theatre, where we have to think oddly at times to get the job done, and this book just blows my mind.
