At this price, the Jaybird X3s could do with a little more refinement and texture in the mid-range.

Jaybird Troubleshooting – Jaybird

With a sweat-proof design, lightweight and compact build, and plenty of methods of securing them, the X3s are well equipped to handle the rigours of physical exercise — the actor voicing the power-status and battery-percentage alerts even sounds like the vocal embodiment of activewear.Frustratingly, while this is a positive move, I’m still a little disappointed to find that a proprietary clip is required to charge the X3 – rather than a direct micro-USB port like most headphones, including the previous Jaybird X2. In fact, adding further insult to injury, the charging clip actually has a micro-USB port on it. Jaybird has reduced the size of the earbud casing compared to the X2. Not only does this stop them from protruding out of your ears as much, but it also means they’re now “helmet compatible”; they won’t get in the way of your helmet straps. Having thrown on a cycling helmet, I can attest to this claim. People who don’t like true wireless. While true wireless earbuds are all the rage nowadays, they’re not for everyone. If you know you’re not going to enjoy the true wireless experience and feel more comfortable with a cable connecting your two buds then these might be for you. The tip style is odd too. Instead of a lip on the aperture to keep the silicone tip in place, the Jaybird X3s use a sort of ridged cone. If they’re not pushed on firmly, the tips fall off easily.

As a result, the customisation process can perhaps be a bit tedious and fiddly (particularly the cable-shortening clips), but once you’ve found your ideal combination you shouldn’t have to adjust it again. Please note: The Firmware Update Assistant will have a software version. This is different to the headphone firmware version. After using them for a few weeks, we’ve completely bedded into this style. Only after comparing to the slightly more restrained SoundMagic E11 did we remember that extra low-end punch was there. As they house extra electronics and a battery, only the boldest just sit in your ear like a normal IEM (in-ear monitor). We don’t want them falling out mid-walk after all.

Jaybird X3 review | What Hi-Fi?

If you’re experiencing issues with your buds like connectivity, audio, and distortion, or connecting to the MySound app, you may want to try resetting your headphones. Double press the power button. The LED will flash rapidly and you should hear a double tone. Your buds have now been reset. It remains a shame that the headphones can store only one profile, though. As with the Freedom, I’d love to be able to toggle between different profiles directly from the headphones. I tend to prefer a more bass-heavy sound when lifting weights, but a more serene one when zoning out on a 10K run. Jaybird X3 – Sound Quality The Jaybird X4 earphones juggle the audio priorities of sporting earphones well, and are well-suited for daily use. They have some extra bass energy and power, very welcome during runs and gym workouts. But not to the extent they sound juvenile or bloated.

Jaybird X3 review | TechRadar

The Jaybird X3 is a significant improvement over the X2 and one of the top Bluetooth sports headphone currently available. The Jaybird X3s have some clever features that stop them from being prone to water damage or being ripped out of your ears. As such, they’re good for active types.

My Freedom 2 buds keep turning off or my music device keeps stopping after I connect. What do I do? Fitness lovers. Just like the Jaybird X3 and X2 before it, the Jaybird X4 has a little bit of everything and is a great all-around pair of exercise earbuds. The Jaybird X3s’ sound is slightly treble-led. There’s real zest and energy, favouring clarity over booming bass. We would comfortably recommend these to gym junkies, audio purists and average Joe’s alike (don’t worry, you’re special in your own way), and while waiting for Bluetooth connections to improve their reliability is an option, at this price it isn’t worth missing out. Most of the X3’s design changes over the X2s are for the better — a smaller profile allows them to fit under helmets and hats, an upgrade to Bluetooth 4.1 provides longer battery-life (8 hours) and the ability to pair two devices, and support for the aforementioned MySound app makes for incredibly malleable sound.
