The oversize handle is brilliant for powerful cranking. It comes fitted with an Aluminium handle on all models other than 2500 but an EVA version is also supplied with all models (2500 only has EVA).Normally, this is where I would include a chart to help break down the various models of whatever reel I’m reviewing but in this case, the Penn Slammer IV has 13 different reel sizes which is a plus in itself. But, it makes it hard to put together a chart that large. Dual bearing supported Slammer Drag System with Dura Drag (*Excluding 2500 size which features HT-100 drag) ranging up to 22kg of pressure in largest 8500 size Size 5500- Gear Ratio 5.6:1 -Bearings 9 - Max Drag 40lb/18.1kg - Mono Capacity m/mm 390/0.28 210/0.36 - Instant Anti-Reverse

will extend your delivery time. Please refer to the "Usually ships in X" details on the 2nd line of the Machined aluminium power knob and spare Hypalon knob across the range (excluding 2500 size which has Hypalon knob only) This is Penn’s flagship feature on all their reels and it’s something that sets them apart from the competition. Their CNC gearing technology makes all components of the gearbox out of brass and since they use a CNC machining process it ensures precision. This results in enhanced cranking power which is especially important when dealing with saltwater. IPX6 Sealed Body

I find that the reel is set so far from the blank that it makes it feel heavier than it is. Now you have a reel in the 10-12 oz range and it sits on the rod like a lump and pulls it down because it’s so far away from the blank. I’d like to see them center it a little closer and shorten the length of the foot. Alternatives

Building on the success of the popular Slammer III series, the latest Slammer IV edition has been redesigned and improved. Continuing with their IPX6 rated waterproof sealed mainbody and spool system. The drag system has been redesigned and now has much greater usable range, giving you more control when your dealing with lunges from hard fighting fish. The larger sizes now come equipped with Penn's Dura Drag, while the 2500 size comes fitted with the HT-100 carbon fibre washers instead. While all models in the range now come with full brass gearing and internals. With a wide selection of sizes available, there’s something here to cover every sea lure fishing scenario. Here are some of the most popular model comparisons to help you get an idea of how the features and specifications change as you increase or decrease in size: ModelAlso featured on the spool are line-capacity rings cut into the base of the spool. These are designed, not for how much line is loaded, but refer, at a glance, as to how much line you have left on the reel spool when a big fish takes a lot of line. The inner line denotes 1/3 rd capacity, the middle line 2/3rds capacity, and the outer line full capacity. And while we’re thinking of line, the spool capacity is 230yds of 15lb mono, or 380yds of 30lb braid, give or take. More than enough to handle anything this reel is pitched against in UK waters!

IPX6 is the rating this reel gets for its sealed design to prevent saltwater from accessing the internal components like bearings and gears. This is important because of salt spray and water coming off the line as it respools. It’s crucial that you have a well-sealed reel to prevent water from accessing and rusting everything out. Penn offers some of the best technology in this regard. Dura-Drag SystemSize 8500- Gear Ratio 4.7:1 -Bearings 9 - Max Drag 50lb/22.6kg - Mono Capacity m/mm 415/0.46 240/0.61 - Instant Anti-Reverse The Stradic FL is one of my favorite reels from my favorite brand. This reel is more affordable than the Penn Slammer IV and it offers a lot of the same features while also being much lighter. That said, it doesn’t have the guts of the Slammer. The drag racing is a lot lower and it’s not as well equipped to handle the salt. Would you look at that? Features are the first thing. You want to look at the features of a reel and see what it brings to the table. A lot of what you read can be nonsense that won’t impact your ability to catch fish. message will provide an estimated arrival date, which can be unpredictable as suppliers often change Size 7500- Gear Ratio 4.7:1 -Bearings 9 - Max Drag 50lb/22.6kg - Mono Capacity m/mm 450/0.36 200/0.46 - Instant Anti-Reverse
