Her and Tommy's conversations end up extremely one-sided, where she doesn't listen to him or brushes off his valid concerns with the same energy of a Manic Pixie Dream Girl. I only started to vaguely feel interested in her when her secrets came to light, and even then she was frustrating. I’m pretty sure that this is the only children’s novel that mentions the hidden treasure of betony, lady’s bedstraw and hare’s-foot clover. But I’d love to be proved wrong! Writing this book has also given me the excuse to use my favourite word over and over – tarn.
