Ada banyak sekali kelucuan saat Siegfried yang sok efisien harus terperangkap prinsip-prinsipnya, atau sekedar oleh kepikunannya yang luar biasa. Early in the book, James joins the veterinary practices of Siegfried, one of the most interesting and entertaining characters you can meet in literature. And even more entertaining is Siegfried’s younger brother Tristan, a fun-loving veterinary student who waltzes in and out of the house and the books, adding more hilarity. It's Herriot's writing that delights me, after all, not whether or not these things actually happened exactly as he sets them down.

Buku ini benar-benar menghibur, sampai saya langsung ingin mengulang membacanya lagi setelah halaman terakhir ditutup. I read these works by James Herriot for the first time almost twenty years ago, and I’ve reread them countless times since then. Stories like this are really innocent when other books are full of murder and mayhem so makes a nice change to get a simple happy book. One of the things that makes Herriot's books so special is his ability to capture the unique personalities and quirks of the animals he encounters: From mischievous cattle and stubborn horses to spoiled Pekinese Tricky-Woo; Herriot has a special talent for bringing them to life on the page, and his descriptions of their behaviour and mannerisms are both funny and touching. James Herriot (1916–1995) was the pen name of James Alfred “Alf” Wight, an English veterinarian whose tales of veterinary practice and country life have delighted generations.I had some trepidation about reading Vet in a Spin as i have strong views on war, but was pleasantly surprised with the apolitical content and found it experience based. As you probably guessed from the titles, James was a veterinary surgeon in the 1930s in Yorkshire, England. On the one hand there are his new colleagues, Siegfried and Tristan Farnon, two brothers who attract a constant stream of local girls to whom James is strangely invisible.

Myslela jsem si, že to bude nějaký ten roztomilý veterinář, který popisuje srdceryvné historky o nemocných psech , nečekala jsem meziválečný anglický venkov, samorostlé farmáře a zběsilého veterináře a jeho bratra.Apart from being incredibly entertaining, Herriot’s books also offer a historical perspective at the practice of veterinary science that was followed in Britain during the time period. Aunque está basada en las experiencias del escritor en sus inicios como veterinario rural, está algo novelada. Shortly afterwards he took up a position as an assistant in a North Yorkshire practice where he remained, with the exception of his wartime service in the RAF, until his death in 1995.

Many of Herriot’s works—including All Creatures Great and Small, All Things Bright and Beautiful, All Things Wise and Wonderful, The Lord God Made Them All, and Every Living Thing—became international bestsellers and have been adapted for film and television. Equal importance is given to the farmers, their crusty exterior hiding some of the most generous and wonderful people one could meet. They are a joy to read, laugh-out-loud funny at times, heart-wrenching at others, and they remind us of the beauty and wonder of the natural world, as well as the importance of kindness and connection in our lives. I live in Yorkshire, about an hour from the Dales, and it has made me want to jump in my car and head off to Herriot country; the whole place just came alive with his passion for the region. Because the previous book I read ('The Choice') was a bit on the heavy side emotional wise, I wanted a lighter read and found this first book in this series (6 books or even more followed) among my nature books on my bookshelves.Having only been qualified for the last seven months, James knew it wouldn't be easy, but he was up to the challenge or so he believed.
