We took the decision several years ago to stop using solid plastic particles in our new product development across our entire wash off portfolio, and started the process of substituting this ingredient with natural alternatives. Create a smooth base by exfoliating the day before your at-home spray tan, and moisturise dry areas, such as the knees, elbows, hands, and feet, a few hours before you tan. The Cosmetic Toiletry and Perfumery Association (CTPA) confirm that spray tan and self-tanning products are safe to use during pregnancy and breastfeeding (lactating mothers may choose to avoid the breast area during the breast feeding stage). The St.Tropez Self Tan Classic, Express, Dark and Gradual Tan Tinted ranges contain a guide colour so you can see exactly where you apply it. You don’t need to worry about applying too much – only missed bits can give an uneven or patchy finish. The St.Tropez Gradual Classic, Shower and Self Tan Purity Bronzing Waters collections do not contain a guide colour but it does leave a light sheen on the skin so you can see where you have applied. All St.Tropez products also contain hydrating ingredients such as Apricot Oil and Aloe Vera which makes application smoother whilst hydrating the skin. We always recommend using an Applicator Mitt to apply any product to ensure a flawless finish and fully recommend daily moisturisation and exfoliating skin twice a week for a long-lasting no-streaks finish and even fade. SKIN SENSITIVITY For optimum results using our Self Tan products, we advise avoiding showering, swimming, sweating for 4—8 hours (ideally 8hrs) to allow your Self Tan to develop on the skin, with the exception of Self Tan Express and Extra Dark where you can rinse off after 1-3 hours and 4 hours respectively, depending on your desired depth of tan I have a confession. Up until last week, I had never used self-tanner on my face. Although I love a faux glow, and have tested probably 20-plus self-tanners for Allure, I've always been nervous about applying something to my face. Would it irritate my sensitive skin? Apply a small amount of Tan Enhancing Body Moisturiser to hands, elbows, knees and feet and any other dry patches – this will ensure the tan doesn’t over develop. For an even, streak free tan, we always recommend using a St.Tropez Tan Applicator Mitt, which is lined and waterproof to prevent the palms of your hands getting stained. Maintain your Self or Gradual tan for longer with daily moisturisation using our Tan Enhancing Body Moisturiser and exfoliate twice a week with our Tan Enhancing Body Polish for no-streaks and even fade. Whilst there is nothing in the products that would be harmful to children, we don’t promote self tan products to children. For our professional spray tans we have clear safety guidelines that our St.Tropez approved salons are trained to follow: we would not advise children have a spray tan but if parental permission has been given, then a parent/guardian must be present during the tan. We do have Instant Tan at-home, cosmetic products which are designed to be washed off that you may deem to be more suitable. If you look like you’ve dipped your hands in a bag of Wotsits, fear not! Any patchy or unwelcome tan can be removed with { St. Tropez Tan Remover Mousse}. You can also exfoliate the skin to remove any build-up of product.

Wondering how to maintain your St. Tropez tan? Keep your tan sleek and smooth by gently exfoliating in the shower every other day. You may want to use a St. Tropez lotion or mist to keep your tan nicely topped up. Any old or patchy tan can be removed with { St. Tropez Tan Remover Mousse}. Whilst your tan is on the skin developing, wear loose dark clothing; do not get the skin wet and avoid exercise. Our Self Tan Purity Bronzing Waters are clear formulas that will leave a light gleam to guide application. You don’t have to rinse it off and it doesn’t transfer onto clothing or bedding. St.Tropez Instant tans contains RAINMAC™ Technology which combines select ingredients to ensure your tan is water & transfer resistant and gives you 24hr wear (Ideal for one night only). Apply a small amount of the self tan product with a cotton bud to the inner crease of the elbow or behind the ear and leave dry for 24hrs. If any contra-actions occur such as redness, swelling, inflammation or itching, avoid using the product as this is a positive reaction for sensitivity. If no reaction occurs then it is fine to proceed with the full body application. St.Tropez can help to minimise the appearance of Vitiligo. We recommend you apply a St.Tropez Self Tan product to the lighter areas with a cotton bud and allow to dry. Leave for at least 8 hours and then wash away the guide colour. If the tan is not dark enough repeat the process. Alternatively St.Tropez Instant Tan can be applied to the area as a temporary cover-up measure.

Apply your choice of Self Tan (whether it’s Self Tan Classic, Dark Mousse, Lotion or Spray), in long sweeping upward motions. in an upwards, sweeping movement ensuring you overlap each area. Claw your hands, separating your fingertips before applying the residual tan on your Mitt to hands, followed by feet. Allow to dry for a few minutes (or until touch dry), before getting dressed and allow your tan to develop over 4—8 hours for optimum results, before showering off the guide colour to reveal a natural-looking, streak-free tan. If you have chosen Express Tan, then shower off after 1-3 hours depending on the depth of tan you desire. Whether you’re applying tan to your face or body, prep is always key. Before using the St.Tropez face mist, simply follow through with your regular skincare routine (cleanse, tone, moisturise – you know the drill).
