Description
There’s no one mask that will work for every type of person with migraine, but the TheraICE Form Fitting Head Gel Ice Cap gets as close as possible to being the best choice for nearly everyone. Style and fit. The goal here is to find a hat that fits comfortably and securely on your head without feeling too tight or constrictive, says Dr. Natbony. While a small amount of compression can be soothing, you don’t want it to be so tight it causes more pain. Both our experts recommend considering what type of hat will fit you well. For example, a wrap with adjustable straps can fit various head sizes and shapes, while one that’s made from stretchy material that can accommodate different types of hair or hairstyles. I admit, I was skeptical when I first read that the All Sett Health Migraine Cap could be heated and cooled equally. It sounded like a great idea, but I’d been burned before (not literally, thankfully, but that’s a real possibility, so be sure to follow the directions). Wipe with a damp towel. Do not submerge in water. If the product gets wet, simply allow to air dry.
I’m not throwing out my migraine medicine any time soon, as that’s still the ultimate cure to get rid of the pain once and for all. However, while I waited for that solution to take effect, I was able to participate in conversations, watch television, play video games, and more with minimal interference. If you have frequent migraines like me, you know just how huge that having added flexibility is. That being said, if your hair is easily influenced by hats on a regular basis, you may find you have some really interesting hair days with this new migraine cap in your life. Heat doesn’t last as long as cold The All Sett Health Migraine Relief Head Wrap can be cooled inside its resealable bag or heated on a plate in the microwave.Overall, migraine hats have other benefits that make them a good addition to any migraine toolkit, Dr. Natbony notes. “Migraine hats are generally affordable and easy to use, and can provide a convenient and non-invasive way to manage symptoms.” If you prefer the muscle relaxation benefits of heat when you have a migraine, it’s worth noting that some migraine hats feature temperature technology that can be frozen or warmed up for maximum versatility. Either way, in addition to some kind of temperature technology, you'll want a hat that’s adjustable enough to provide a snug but comfortable fit and can be used in a multitude of ways depending on where you need relief. While the directions tell you to use the fridge to cool the cap for one to two hours (and that does work), my first time using it I actually cheated and tossed it in the freezer for 10 minutes instead. The advantage, of course, is that, whereas the cold takes minutes to hours to take effect, heat can be applied in a few seconds. I did end up having to reheat the hat once or twice each time I used it, but, because I work from home and my microwave is a 20-step commute away, this shortcoming didn’t prove too cumbersome. For someone who is using it elsewhere, though, it could definitely be more of a hinderance. If your migraines are severe, you might be offered other things to help, such as learning relaxation techniques and acupuncture.
This cap is advertised as a source of migraine relief rather than a migraine cure, and honestly, that’s pretty accurate. As great as it was, wearing this relief that did not magically clear up my migraine. It’s not adjustable, so there may be a limit to its stretch and comfort if your head is very large. Type of fabric: First, consider the type of fabric the hat is made from. Some fabrics can actually trigger migraines in some people. If you are sensitive to certain fabrics, make sure to choose a hat made from a breathable and hypoallergenic material. Choosing breathable material will also keep your head from overheating.Dr. Natbony says there are two ways that migraine hats work to help people find relief from acute symptoms: hot/cold therapy and gentle compression. Technically you can use the Huggaroo Soothe Unscented Microwavable Heating Pad for with heat or cold therapy, but we think it stands out from the crowd more when used as a heating pad. Not only does it have a cozy, plush feeling that radiates comfortable heat during use, but it’s also unscented, making it especially helpful for people with migraine who have sensitivity to strong smells during episodes.
Finally, we consulted with two neurologists and migraine experts to make sure we knew exactly what to look for when shopping for migraine hats, as well as how they work and who might benefit from using one. Experts we spoke to include: Remove product from any plastic bags. Make sure the product is not cold and at room temperature. Microwave starting at 20 seconds and add in 10-second increments to get the desired temperature. For the Wrist Sleeve, microwave starting at 10 seconds and add in 5-second increments to get the desired temperature. All microwaves may vary. We also appreciate that this hat is pretty discreet. It’s not noticeably a migraine hat, so although you can’t pull it down over your eyes, you could leave the house with it on if needed. A GP may also recommend making changes to your lifestyle to help manage your migraines, such as eating at regular times and drinking less caffeine. The hat provides great value, It was bought again and has a great design. Most importantly, the allsett - health migraine hat is superior to other headache caps.
What customer are saying:
It’s on the bulkier side and doesn’t stay cold for long, so it’s best used for heating therapy only. Both the cold and the heat (and even the room temperature compression, for that matter) provided strong relief to the migraine-induced pain and nausea I was feeling. Though every migraine is different, so I can’t say for certain, I also believe wearing this hat has possibly helped shorten the duration of my symptoms. However, in a pinch, the freezer worked fine. Just be careful not to forget it’s in there, as it will likely get too cold for immediate use. You’ll also get a more even cooling across the hat by following the fridge directions as well.
While Dr. Natbony notes that everyone will have a different preference in terms of style, design, and extra features, there are a few key things you should look for when shopping. Even though my hair tends to be pretty easy to manage, the All Sett Health Migraine Cap has a habit of making my bangs stand on end after being worn for a while. I made the mistake of wearing the cap during a get together with friends. I was excited to be able to participate still while mid-migraine, as in the past I would have had to excuse myself to some dark, quiet corner of the house. However, once the migraine cleared up and the cap came off, my bangs took on a life of their own. According to Dr. Natbony, research has shown that temperature therapy (both cold and hot) combined with compression can help reduce migraine pain. While there isn’t much research on migraine hats specifically, there’s no reason to think they can’t work well to provide this kind of relief. That said, migraine hats work well for some people, especially those who find cooling therapy helps them manage their symptoms, but not for others. The Hot and Cold Therapy Gel Bead Facial Eye Mask by Fomi Care is definitely an eye mask rather than a traditional migraine hat, but we think it’s worth including because we know exactly how awful a sinus migraine can be. And this option directs temperature therapy right where it’s needed (like your forehead, eyes, cheeks, and temples).Sure, it was disappointing to take the cap off and realize the migraine was still lurking, but it also doesn’t mean this product is a failure. On the contrary, this headache hat did what nothing else has been able to for me in the past: It provided some ease in symptoms that made my migraines more manageable. It’s worth noting that my house tends to be pretty cold (between 67 to 69 degrees), so if you keep your space warmer, the heat likely lasts a longer time. Does the AllSet Health Migraine Relief Cap work? Yes, but manage your expectations
