Baxter guest-starred in an episode of The Goodies and later appeared in the lead role in Mr Majeika, developed from the books by Humphrey Carpenter, a children's show about a magic teacher, expelled from Walpurgis (the wizard land) for failing his professional examinations. He later stated that he had wanted to retire after his spectacular hour-long shows had been cancelled and that the move to children's television was a "purely financial" arrangement. Carpenter was an expert on children’s literature, and was particularly fascinated by the lives and works of the Inklings, the group of writers which included C. S. Lewis and J. R. R. Tolkien. Having read the book, I feel that it is more appropriate for children in the key stage two phase. It is a book which has a lot of adventure and creativity expressed within it which is something that can be used to support children from Years 3-6, particularly because it helps with their own individual creativity. In August 2020, Baxter came out as gay, following the release of his authorised biography.
