Description

Momo, however, is a wrench in the plans of the Men in Grey and the Timesavings Bank, thanks to her special personality. The Men in Grey try various plans to deal with her, to derail her from stopping their scheme, but they all fail. Momo, also known as The Grey Gentlemen or The Men in Grey, is a fantasy novel by Michael Ende, published in 1973. The human in modern society is shown as a victim to his craving for success because of which he becomes estranged to feelings such as love. According to Ende, the modern world is a dark place in which emotions barely exist.

Uh, no," said Manny. "It's funny, but when I think about it I find I have more time than I'd imagined. And you're right. Momo is very good." Beppo - was Momo's best friend. He was short and always walked a bit crouched. He talked little and only the truth. Beppo thought the biggest danger came from lies. It was the house of Master Hora, the master of time. The turtle was his accomplice and could predict the future half an hour ahead. Because of her gift, she was able to bring Momo to safe.

He did several jobs and one of his favorites was entertaining the tourists and telling them stories. He thought his stories were more interesting than the history. The people thought his stories were entertaining but didn't think it was okay for him to take money for made-up stories. Gigi justified himself with the excuse that all poets do that. Again he paused for thought before adding, 'That way you enjoy your work, which is important, because then you make a good job of it. And that's how it ought to be.'

In the end, the author gives us a dream about a better future and breaks the darkness which can be noticed when Momo freed the time that was taken away from people. Sceneries never saw before occurred in the city; the children played and the drivers looked at them with a smile on their face. The plot is set in a country in the south and, since it is a fairytale, the time is unspecified. The inconsolable Momo decided to go to Master Hora again but this time, she was followed by a group of agents. They kept their distance so they wouldn't be exposed. Hora explained to Momo that the Men in Gray took pedals from the flowers, dried them, folded them and then used them in their cigarettes. That was their source of life. After 40 minutes of intensive listening and peeling the onion, a solution is found, apologies are accepted, and all leave to go home. One student gets into new trouble with his timesaving mother who had to wait for him and lost an entire 60 minute investment in the Timesaving Bank. Peacekeeping is expensive!Momo's adventure takes her from the depths of her heart, which her own time flows from in the form of lovely hour-lilies, to the lair of the Men in Grey themselves, where the time that people believe they are saving is hoarded. After Master Hora stops time, but gives Momo one hour-lily to carry with her, she has exactly one hour to defeat the Men in Grey in a frozen world where only they and she are still moving. In the ruins of an amphitheatre just outside an unnamed city lives Momo, a little girl of mysterious origin. She came to the ruin, parentless and wearing a long, used coat. She is illiterate and cannot count, and she doesn't know how old she is. When asked, she replies, "As far as I remember, I've always been around." She is remarkable in the neighbourhood because she has the extraordinary ability to listen—really listen. By simply being with people and listening to them, she can help them find answers to their problems, make up with each other, and think of fun games. The advice given to people "go and see Momo!" has become a household phrase and Momo makes many friends, especially an honest, silent street-cleaner, Beppo, and a poetic, extroverted tour guide, Gigi (Guido in some translations). And that has not happened in many years, mum, not since I read Good Night, Mr. Tom. Maybe you should read it with your class?"

Momo (The Slums) Stray: Where to find Outsider Notebooks for Momo (The Slums)

In 2015, the Royal Danish Opera commissioned composer Svitlana Azarova to write Momo and the Time Thieves. Its world premiere occurred at the Copenhagen Opera House in October, 2017. [12] Ende himself has said that " Momo is a tribute of gratitude to Italy and also a declaration of love," [6] indicating that the author idealized the Italian way of life. Loy and Goodhew suggested that Ende's perspective on time coincided with his interest in Buddhism and that for example the deliberately slow character of Beppo might be regarded as a Zen master, even though Ende wrote the book long before his visits to Japan. [7] The reader is firstly introduced to the verses of an Irish children song: "Twinkle, twinkle little star". In the end there is an epilogue in which Michael Ende admits to have written the whole fairytale based on the memory of what a passenger in a train told him. It is assumed that the passenger could be Master Hora. This is a modern day fairytale, about a little girl named Momo, who moves into a ruined amphitheater on the edge of a Italian-style town. She is a remarkable individual, who lives in poverty, yet her life is rich with friendship and love. Momo has a unique skill of deep listening. Soon all the villagers learn that when they are not getting along they should "go and see Momo". Through Momo's friendship, her friends find peace, community, and creativity. Her gift of listening to them until the truth unveils itself brings her to be surrounded by many friends who bring her food, tell her stories, and help care for her in her adopted home.Momo met a lot of friend and the closest to her were Gigi and Beppo. Gigi was a fun person that liked to invent stories and make people happy with them. When he would spend time with Momo, he would tell her the stories about a princess Momo and prince Gigi. Beppo cleaned the streets and he did his job with pride and dignity. The author of The Neverending Story wrote this book in the German language, while living in Italy. This tells you three very special things about this story. First, it is a beautiful, thrilling, and thought-provoking fantasy conceived by a great storyteller. Second, it comes to us in English through the very gifted J. Maxwell Brownjohn, whom I take to be the same as John Brownjohn, translator of Mimus (by Lilli Thal) and other German-to-English marvels. And third, its setting and characters have the warmth and vitality of Italy and Italians viewed through the eyes of love.
