Description

The winner gets one point for each of the opponents Carrom men left on the board at the end of the game. Plus three extra points if they have successfully potted and covered the Queen. The Queen shall be placed by the Umpire only in the Centre Circle. While placing so, however, if shot is automatically formed, it cannot be altered. If a C/M is broken by a stroke during the course of the board, the position of the bigger part of the broken C/M is considered for all purposes, and the Umpire’s decision shall be final. b.i. In Doubles, the Due or penalty C/M shall always be taken out for placing by the player who is sitting on the right hand side of the player having his turn at the time of the availability of C/M.

Japan was introduced to carrom in early 20 th century where it is fondly called as tokyu-ban, which means ‘fight ball board’ in English. It lost steam mid-way but many still play tokyu-ban in Hikone city. Non-Asian Countries Participating in Carrom The opening player gets three attempts to break the central group of Carrom pieces. The striker can hit any of the Carrom men in the opening moves. If the striker one of his own Carrom men, the turn continues. If the player does not pot any Carrom men or commits a foul, the turn is over. There are numerous different rules when it comes to fouls in Carrom but under the standard rules, this is what you need to be aware of. Remove the striker gently, without disturbing any other piece, if the striker rests beneath another piece. If the striker does not leave both lines, the player has another chance. After three tries without leaving the lines the player loses their turn. [19]During the course of the board, if a player gets up from the seat during his or his opponent’s turn, for any reason, he shall lose the board with the number of his C/M and Queen lying on the board. If the score of the opponent is 22 or more, he shall lose the board by the number of C/M only. The striker may not "cut the moon" - be placed partially within the baseline and partially within the circle. The Italian Carrom Federation was founded in 1995 by a group of Carrom enthusiasts and is responsible for the spread of the game throughout Italy. Lay your palm on the board with the middle finger pointing toward the striker’s edge. Create pressure with your thumb on the middle finger. The striker will go forward to strike the Carrommen once you release the middle finger. You must adjust your hand’s direction to the board’s position to play. Using this method to create a potent shot is also common. Carrom Striker Rules A player potting their final Carrom piece before the Queen has been covered. Both the Queen and a penalty piece are returned to the centre circle

One reason why Carrom’s rules can be so complicated is that it can be hard to know how to use each piece. With Carrom, the counters/ pieces can be separated into three groups Carrom Men, the Queen, and finally the Striker. Carrom Men While taking a stroke, the Striker must touch both the Base Lines. If the stroke is made from the Base Circle, the Striker must cover the Base Circle fully, but should not touch the arrow. In the event of the C/M lying on the Base Line or Base Circle, preventing the player from taking a stroke for want of space for placement of his Striker, that board shall be replayed.Outside the circles, on each side of the board, they’ll be two lines parallel with the edge of the board as well. Together these lines will create a thin rectangular shape with small red circles at each end. These create a baseline which players will utilize when playing. The Counters The winner of a board collects one point for each of the opponent’s carrom men left at the finish and three points for the queen if covered by the winner (if covered by the loser, no-one gets those points). No more points are collected for the queen after your score reaches 22. The player striking first should position the striker on the base line and strike in one go. The player is not allowed to jerk the striker or the board when striking, as it will be considered a foul.
