Description

One Enchanted evening is everything you need in a novel when the weather outside demands you snuggle under a blanket with a good book.' Featuring the story of thirty-five year old Polly Cameron, it tells of how she’s not looking for a relationship with a strong and independent mindset. Seemingly happy with life whilst somewhat world-weary, she’s keen to do things on her own whilst not needing others for company in the process. Residing in a small Gloucestershire town not unlike that of the author, she has her cat for company whilst taking an active part in her local community whilst working at a cafe. This all leads to both her family and friends attempting to set her up with various men in a number of different and increasingly elaborate ways, all efforts which she constantly attempts to fend off. Not wanting to complicate her life anymore, she wants to keep herself busy without relying on others for any help or assistance, instead doing things alone. That’s when a man enters her life to help her reevaluate things and maybe change her mind on what she previously thought to be the case. Will she change her mind and manage to settle down? Can she ever truly be happy? What will become of Polly Cameron as she finds herself living dangerously? A French Affair Meg falls in love with the hotel, despite the fact it needs some work doing on it, none of the rooms have bathrooms, the decor is dated. But it’s not long before Meg starts having ideas as to what they can do to Although predictable, it is after all a 'feel good' romance novel, it is very well written. I loved the setting in Dorset and when I thought it a tad old-fashioned, I remembered it was set in the 1960s. I thought some of the characters were lovely, such as the elderly and mysterious Ambrosine, and I even enjoyed the stereoptypes too, who I think were written a bit tongue-in-cheek. First of all, thank you to Net Galley and the publishers, Random House, for an advanced copy of this book.

I first met Meg when I read A Wedding in the Country. She was one of a group of three young women who attended a London cookery school aimed at teaching the culinary arts to young ladies. Having already followed the stories of the other two in the previous books in this loose series, I was delighted to learn more about Meg. Meg falls in love with the hotel, despite the fact it needs some work doing on it, none of the rooms have bathrooms, the decor is dated. But it’s not long before Meg starts having ideas as to what they can do to get more visitors, because close by is a hotel with much more updated facilities. Can they keep the hotel running or will it have to be sold? Then there is Meg and Justin could there be another romance or not? I have to give a special mention to Ambrosine. I could have happily sat beside her for hours as she regaled me with her life stories *sighs*. Nevertheless, for a good-vibe book, it maintains the tone quite well. Like cozy cup of tea that keeps one warm on a rainy day.Meg longs to be a professional cook, but in 1964 the idea of a female chef running a kitchen is considered ridiculous. Undaunted, she has plans to travel to France and work on her already impressive skills to chase her dream of becoming a pastry chef. Writer of a number of romance novels, British author Katie Fforde was born on the 27th of September, 1952, as Catherine Rose Gordon-Cumming. Growing up in Wimbledon, London, she spent the majority of her upbringing in the city, something which helped inform much of her later work. With her sister Jane Gordon-Cumming a famous writer as well, her fate as an author was sealed with her passion for literature established early on. If you like foodie novels, then this one is a sweet treat. A lot of the scenes are set around food, which makes perfect sense since the two main characters are chefs. Red your book Thea came out in April could you please tell me when the next one will be out rereading all Reply

Arriving on the literary scene in 1995 with her novel ‘Living Dangerously’, she had published a novel that helped establish much of what was to come later on. Creating many of the archetypes that were to follow, it helped set-up the tone, thus providing her with her audience in the years to come. Whilst looking at traditional relationships from her own life, she managed to place her own distinctive take on the romance genre for readers looking for a different perspective. This time, the focus is on Meg as she agrees to support her mother with caretaking a Dorset hotel in the owner’s absence. Despite having a confirmed opportunity to experience a professional kitchen in a French restaurant, Meg takes control of the hotel’s kitchen even though the owner’s son views her through misogynistic eyes. There is clearly no love lost between Meg and the rather pompous Justin, and tempers become frayed as he continually undermines her skills.I have to admit that I was concerned going into this one as it's set in the 1960s and I'm not usually a fan of historical fiction... (although there's a debate about what counts as historical and to me it's before 1980, how about you?) However, I loved it so much more than I thought I would!

One Enchanted Evening by Katie Fforde | Waterstones

Meg is such an optimistic and enthusiastic heroine. Though Justin, is admittedly not my favorite. He pops around, here and there, and I kinda wish we could get into his head, (I understand why we can't). He can be frustrating, but he makes up to it, almost like-- pound for pound. He does grow on you and it does pay off in the end,..eventually. One Enchanted Evening is a literary hug that filled me with a comforting warmth and made me crave for more .' What I thoroughly loved about this story was the twist though, especially as it involved my favourite character. It added a little bit of mystery to the book, and it wove beautifully through the romance without seeming like a side quest.Meg has a Job offer in France but berms offered one in hotel 🛏 But can she leave all her long standing behind: Alexander and her partner Antoine, Lizzy and Vanessa all old friends also David and Russell want to put on Do you have that one author where every time you get a new book from them it feels like you’re catching up with an old friend? Well that is what Katie’s books are for me (and my mum, her number one fan). I’ve wanted to have a book for Meg since we first met her in A Wedding in the Country so I’ve been super excited for this one since it was announced. Shame it doesn't seem to be the case for the owner's son, who firmly believes that women shouldn't be in charge of a professional kitchen at all.
