From only having four people in his year at school, to living in a family home where they didn’t just not bother to lock the front door, they didn’t even have a key. I’m not sure I would have enjoyed the read as much had I been reading the book myself, and would have given it a 3 star rating. It's a collection of funny anecdotes, a nice light-hearted read that you'll love if you enjoy the podcast! The book Parenting Hellsees Josh and Rob share the challenges and madness of their parenting journeys with lashings of empathy and extra helpings of laughs.
But these guys talk about coming home from a job tired only to have an excited toddler jumping around all evening in such a relatable way. Join Josh and Rob as they share the challenges and madness of their parenting journeys with lashings of empathy and extra helpings of laughs. I think this should be listened to or read before any baby handbook , just to put things into perspective. I would give this book a 4 star review for the audio book version due to the interviews with parents, wives and Michael, plus the off the cuff remarks and larking about between Rob and Josh during the reading of the book. It probably is quite amusing for a 20-something gal who wants to be childless forever to be so entertained and attached to a podcast (and subsequent book) about parenting.I am a mum, daughter and now a grandmother and the stories, and feelings are so relatable, the added interviews with Lou and Rose (their wives) their parents and Michael (the podcast producer) were all great added chapters, the banter was fantastic and you can see why they are so fulfilled in their hectic lives, it may not be a literary masterpiece however it is everything I wanted it to be. Read, improvised and embellished by Rob and Josh, with special guest appearances by their wives Rose and Lou, podcast producer Michael and Rob's parents Sue and Dave. This book (especially the audio version which I recommend) is a great read for when you want to relate and laugh along to how parenting little kids can be. It will discuss everything from the BBC convincing him that Michael Parkinson had been possessed by a ghost, to Josh’s belief that Mr Blobby is one of the great comic characters, to what it’s like being the only vegetarian child west of Bristol. I think I missed the purpose of the book and downloaded it as I had spare audible credits to use up.
I love the honesty about the difficultly of parenting and keeping your entire life together as well as sharing the exciting and wholesome moments. I would say there there is a lot more seriousness in the book than the podcast but still humorous and it was also great to have the addition from the family and see how parenting changes across the generations but at the crux of it all…it is all about the children and them being happy.I was a huge fan of the podcast - saved me during a rough time when I had a lot of self doubt as a new parent. Read this in almost one go while lying in bed resting in my 36th week of my second pregnancy while my two and a half year old was at daycare. Lots of funny anecdotes about parenting and it was nice to hear from Lou and Rose too and see the other side of the parenting from Rob and Josh. I also loved listening to Michaels bit but will end my day remembering Michael describe Josh as a "tender lover".
We zijn 99% zeker dat de audioversie nog beter is dan het fysieke boek omdat stand up comedy lezen gewoon echt niet hetzelfde is als het horen. This was selected as the first read for a parent book club I joined (appropriately) and it was really funny and quite endearing at times. I laughed out loud many times and once had to go into another room because I thought I might wake my sleeping husband.I had listened to a few of the podcasts before jumping into this book, and it really is a continuation of the conversation. It tells the story of the end of an era, the last time when watching television was a shared experience for the family and the nation, before the internet meant everyone watched different things at different times on different devices, headphones on to make absolutely sure no one else could watch it with them. Focusing on the madness, absurdity and utter chaos of being a parent, the Parenting Hellbook will publish in October 2022 in hardback, ebook and audiobook, and will feature some special guests.
