You carry on with your Sauvage, I'll command the room with my exotic pet on a solid gold leash, we can still be friends. after wearing it about 10 times I find that I can't stand the stale notes and that's the end of Joy, for me. The realism of the flowers do not seem to suffer the downgrade that usually occurs when they are cast down from nature to essence, they transition unscathed from shrub to bottle, fleshy and full botanical, the jasmine and the rose are wholly discernible, even insular, living together in isolation like limbs matching in a body.

She always kept a lovely black little bottle with red stopper of the pure parfum on her dressing table and would wear it on special occasions. A thick, chewy ambergris and conspicuous civet enhances its corporeality and infuses it with more than a touch of amorality and baroque extravagance. Vintage Joy in the black red-capped bottle: Rich tuberose and jasmine, made a little fresher and woodier with May rose. Intense and luscious with alluring floral composition, JOY was created by Henri Alméras, who made its top notes irresistibly delightful. While I will always crave a variety of fragrances, I have recently discovered Eau du Soir and am feeling *most* everyone else is either left in the dust or at least looking a lot less versatile and cumbersome for not being such workhorses or good performers.Joy stands for forever, I'm appreciated to know once we had this kind of beautiful thing in our lives, hope people can always enjoy what Joy wants to tell us: joy is around you wherever or whenever you're. Instead I got a happy, purring civet and the most beautiful jasmine I have smelled in a perfume so far. Note: there are a few comments down below who speak of Joy as being full of tuberose and ylang, similar to, of all things, Fracas. The first spray is absolutely delicious, much more so than I remember, so much so that I usually overdo it trying to prolong the thrill. According to Luca Turin, "the whole point of its formula was to achieve the platonic idea of a flower, not one particular earthly manifestation.

JOY is a perfume of flowers that are far from being innocent or virginal: these flowers are carnal, they are sexual, they have body, they have heat, they are “dirty” in the best sense of the word, they like to be pollinated (😂); At first its smell may resemble that of soap, something clean and polished, but if you pay attention, you will feel this “dirtiness” touch deep down. One YouTube reviewer suggested that one dab is enough but I have hit all my pulse points and I am surrounded in a warm bubble of tropical air in which the jasmine and distant roses set the scene. Infatuated with high speed and thrills, Jean Patou drove racing cars, gambled at casinos, and sailed speedboats on the open sea. It evokes a spent beauty, in the dry down, on some days and it's not doing it for you, rather just because it's Joy, after all. It’s not dirty, it’s not extravagant in a more contemporary way (think 70’s/80’s stunners); it’s simply beautiful. Also, keep in mind, the first sprays out of a new bottle, and right after transit to boot, are often terrible. I would often wear it around the house along with my mother's heels, her costume jewelry and hand-me-down make up.

Ugh it's giving me Amarige vibes, and I don't like Amarige EPD by Givenchy which by the way, is a whole lot more affordable than Joy EPD. There were no testers or samples available of Joy so when I first opened the bottle it was a huge disappointment. I love all forms of Joy, although if I had to choose this would be lower on the list only for the fact that on me it becomes a skin scent very quickly. The May rose in here is the same as in the original Joy for my nose it really shines, and I have always felt that the May rose does not take a back seat to the jasmine in Joy and she doesn't in Eau de Joy either. Patou Joy is a beautiful, straight down the middle blend of rose/jasmine that gracefully just works. But I’m glad I didn’t put any effort into finding a vintage version—the modern formulation really didn’t seem noticeably different to me.
