When people think of the Friday the 13th series the fifth installment, A New Beginning, often gets criticized by fans. It’s very similar to Halloween III: Season of the Witch and how fans hate it even though it is arguably the best in the series. I’m tip toeing around the why these two are similar because I’m trying not to deliver a huge spoiler that can make or break this film depending on how you look at it. Regardless, this film is hated and it’s for a ridiculous reason. I actually enjoy this installment even though it’s doesn’t bring anything new to the series.

FRIDAY THE 13TH UNCUT: English / Dutch / Finnish / French / German / Italian / Norwegian / Portuguese-Brazilian / Spanish-Castilian / Spanish-Latin American / Swedish It’s safe to say that with such a large selection, nearly all of the previous DVD and Blu-ray releases of this series can be retired. Even so, there a couple of items that haven’t been included. The Return to Camp Crystal Lake documentary from the film’s Blu-ray release in the UK is not accounted for, nor are the Crystal Lake Memories and His Name Was Jason documentaries. However, their absence is not felt, and they are still fully available elsewhere (and highly recommended as well). It’s also worth noting that the From Crystal Lake to Manhattan DVD set was originally meant to include the featurette Scary Trailers, which was to feature interviews with the likes of visual effects producer Dan Corey and voice-over artist Don LaFontaine discussing the making of the series’ trailers. Whether it was something that was cut at the last minute or simply not used, it’s a shame that it still hasn’t seen the light of day. Some may be disappointed in the absence of additional cut footage, deleted scenes, TV edits, or workprint footage that has been floating around on the internet for years, but be rest assured: if it could have been included, it would have been. This is an exhaustive and as close to definitive Friday the 13th film collection on Blu-ray as we’re ever going to get. It will take one days, even weeks to get through all of it. Secrets Galore Behind the Gore – a 3-part featurette on the makeup effects of Part 1, Part 4 and Part 7 Finally, this one keeps it up with the death scenes. The kills are not as polished as the previous films but it still satisfies those looking for slasher deaths. The practical effects are solid but we don’t get anything we haven’t seen before. Overall, The New Blood is easily the most laughable entry in the series. It’s still a fun watch but it is easily the most out there entry in the entire series. Scream Factory has announced their replacement disc program for their long-awaited Friday the 13th Blu-ray box set. Every single installment from the franchise is included in the set and horror fans have been clamoring for it ever since it was officially announced. However, when it arrived earlier this week, fans soon found out that there were some missing special features that were originally advertised. Scream Factory had this to say in a statement. The story for this one is a Friday the 13th film. We follow a killer who was wronged as he kills anyone and everyone that gets in his way. The kills in the woods and how the people die also are perfect for a Friday the 13th films. However, who is doing the killing is what turns most fans off to this film. The audio commentary, which has finally been carried over from the From Crystal Lake to Manhattan DVD set, is a lively discussion with the cast about their experiences making the film. In Fresh Cuts, the cast and crew talk about the making of the film and how difficult it was. Lost Tales from Camp Blood: Part 3 continues with another slasher short film. The still galleries contain a total of 145 on-set stills, behind-the-scenes photos, press materials, posters, lobby cards, memorabilia, and newspaper clippings. The Fangoria magazine BD-ROM attachment features an interview with Steve Miner about the third film by Bob Martin, and an interview with Doug White about his make-up effects work in the third film by David Everitt. DISC FIVE – FRIDAY THE 13TH: THE FINAL CHAPTER The 12 films included in this must-own set: Friday the 13th(1980), Friday the 13th Part 2(1981), Friday the 13th Part 3(1982), Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter(1984), Friday the 13th Part V: A New Beginning(1985), Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives(1986), Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood(1988), Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan(1989), Jason Goes To Hell: The Final Friday(1993), Jason X(2001), Freddy vs. Jason (2003), and Friday the 13th(Remake) (2009). Five years after the massacre at Camp Crystal Lake, the legend of Jason Voorhees lives on. Despite ominous warnings, a group of counsellors encounter horrors of their own. The acting in this one is fun. We get a little more livelier characters in this installment but the acting is still the same. The cast delivers some solid performances but the more horror oriented scenes does feel forced and overdramatic. Fans of slashers know exactly what to expect when they toss in a slasher and those cliched performances are what made Friday the 13th and it’s sequels so much fun.

Friday the 13th: Part III—When viewing the film in 3D, the first instance of the 3D opening credits does not pop out of the screen correctly. FRIDAY THE 13TH UNCUT: English Dolby TrueHD 5.1 Surround / English Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround / French, German, Italian, Portuguese-Brazilian, Spanish-Castilian – Dolby Digital 1.0 Mono The acting in this one is rough for me. In fact, I can’t really find any aspect of the cast that I enjoyed. The characters are all sci-fi clichés and can be found in almost any SyFy original film. Even when I first laid eyes on this release I never cared for the cast or characters which is even more apparent all these years later. Finally, the film has a few unforgettable death scenes and a few that are not as wild. These two or three kill scenes really use some creativity and great practical effects. However, some of the other kills are painfully bland. Also, the film uses some extremely dated visual effects that was laughable in 2001 and even more laughable now. Overall, Jason X is a humiliating entry in the series. I remember being excited for a new installment but now I’m ashamed of the film and embarrassed for anyone associated with it. When I was in college I wasn’t collecting movies like I once was. I was on my own, working a full time job, and a student full time. That doesn’t mean I had cut horror completely out of my life. I just was unable to spend the money on movies like I once was. That didn’t stop me from going out and watching the Friday the 13th remake when it was released.NEW Outta Space: The Making of JASON X – featuring interviews with producers Noel Cunningham and Sean S. Cunningham, actor Kane Hodder and writer Todd Farmer When I was in middle school I would finish watching the rest of the films in the series with my grandmother and uncle. I still have an appreciation for JGtH that most horror fans do not but, as I’ve said before, my taste in movies is very different than the normal horror fan. A few weeks ago I got the Scream Factory box set in and decided to dive into it. Deleted/Alternate Scenes, Including the Original Opening and Ending with optional commentary by director Ronny Yu and executive producer Douglas Curtis

FRIDAY THE 13TH: THE FINAL CHAPTER: English DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 Surround / French-Parisian, Spanish-Latin American – Dolby Digital 2.0 Mono What chance does a telekinetic teenage girl have against a maniacal serial killer with a machete? Return to Crystal Lake to fi nd out...if you dare! Scream Factory yet again has to save face. One of the most anticipated releases of the year on disc, their new Friday The 13th Complete Series box set is a marvel, and it is even crazier that they could get it made in the first place. Yet, like other releases, including famously their Halloween set from a few years ago, there are errors on the discs. Not just audio issues either, which are common. No, these are missing scenes and such. These things happen, but they seem to happen with every box set Scream Factory comes out with. It is a little crazy. You can find the known issues so far down below. Friday The 13th Complete Box Art Friday The 13th Collection Known Issues The acting in this one is probably my second favorite in the series. Thom Mathews is an amazing actor that not only kills it as Tommy Jarvis but has fans quoting him from his peformances in the first two Return of the Living Dead films. Feldman brought the character to life when he portrayed him as a child but Mathews is the Jarvis most of us think of. It’s a real shame he was not cast as Jarvis in the previous installment. The supporting cast is just as good with most of the characters more down to earth and serious. I do enjoy the more out there characters but this darker story would have fell apart if those comedic performances were delivered.
