Description

Edmondson played Estragon to Mayall's Vladimir in Samuel Beckett's play in the West End, in a production that opened at the Queen's Theatre on 30 September 1991. Edmondson and the others were commissioned to act in six self-contained half-hour films, using the group as comedy actors rather than stand-up performers.

It's a short read, that moves quickly from period to period, quite simply structured, but is quite moving as Tilly and her Dad come to terms with their family tragedy through their travels. A children's book was the required August reading challenge I have going with my fab friend and right off the bat I knew I was going to choose Tilly and the Time Machine by Adrian Edmondson. Tilly is a resourceful little girl (there's a Home Alone moment when 'men' come for her dad's time machine and she decides to defend it), and the story is suitable for those around her age (7) as well as a little older. She also travels back in time to discover a cupboard full of her mummy's old photos in her dad's office. Tilly's mother passed away when she was six and this is covered with sincerity, in a poignant and thoughtful way.

Tilly and the Time Machine (Paperback) - Waterstones

I enjoyed this book and I particularly liked the Thrax character and I thought the history was realistic. I also enjoyed the parts set in the Victorian era and I would like to find out more about that time. This is a good and fun way to introduce the kiddos to certain points in history (Queen Victoria, Nelson/Napoleon, 1966 World Cup etc) and there are some sad moments (re: Tilly and the loss of her mum.Edmondson attended Pocklington School in Yorkshire from 1968 to 1975 and later went to the University of Manchester to study drama, receiving a 2:1 degree, where he met his future comedy partner Rik Mayall. But he also handles with aplomb Tilly’s journey to understanding her dad’s feelings, and working out her own sense of regret. Edmondson and Mayall soon became best friends and before long found work on the burgeoning alternative comedy scene. You will notice that it looks singularly askew, and that there is an odd twinkling appearance about this bar, as though it was in some way unreal. Who knew that Admiral Nelson liked Kit Kats or that Queen Victoria liked cocktail sausages on a stick.
