Molly keeps knowingly getting herself into such danger and hot water that I became impatient with her, but that’s how the plot thickens. This book wasn't perfect, it was predictable and rushed due to its length (or lack thereof), but it was also really charming, somehow? But from the moment she arrives, Marin notices something is off at Lovelace House, from Alice’s strangely disconnected behavior and the kids’ increasingly unkind pranks to the house’s secret corners and the dead, mutilated animals that appear everywhere. It was advertised as a novel for those who are fans of The Haunting of Bly Manor, one of my favorite horror TV shows (albeit I love Hill House more), and the inspiration was very clear. I'm usually not a big fan of the suspense/thriller genre, but this one has a depth of emotion and characterization that puts it above the typical thriller.

I’m currently revising my next book, another YA with horror elements about a group of girls stranded on an island in the Pacific Northwest with a monster. I loved the atmosphere of the creepy house, I loved the found family aspect, and I even appreciated/enjoyed the romantic aspects of the book, however rushed they were.
