Both voices are exceptionally well-realised, essential for such a character-driven story. And while there is some crossover of events between the perspectives, they remain distinct and true to each character. I was searching for something different; something easy but substantial, and this turned out to be exactly what I was looking for. Joel's heart finally restarts, but nothing will ever be the same for all three of them. Over the next two decades their lives will collide. And finally, this lovely story ends the exact way I wish for all books to end: with me wanting more. Yes, the story is finished and complete, but the author knew the perfect moment to call it quits and didn't cheapen the story with an unnecessary amount of details in the wrap-up. Such a fantastic read!

How to Save a Life is an epic novel that starts with one life-or-death event and then follows the lives of three complex people to show how that moment changed everything. And this novel will change you. It’s extraordinary—a very, very special book indeed.” —Julie Cohen, author of Dear Thing The book is split into 14 sections that each have a different topic focusing on events throughout the history of the show. It discusses the exits of important characters and the decisions that got them to the point, it also talked about how Shondaland grew and how Ellen Pompeo became one of the highest paid actresses. The book didn’t just give the classic behind the scenes information it also gave us a look at what the writers room is like, and the process that the writers must go through to create each episode. Unfortunately some of the information did not feel completely expressed to the level I wanted. I was hoping for more rare or exclusive information; a lot of it was taken from interviews that had previously aired. Now, the prose was phenomenal. It is amazing to look at the way Miss Zarr string a couple of words together and creates such sentences that you want to stop and reread them to try and absorb their meaning. To feel them, to taste them, like they are something palpable. And, trust me, I can really vouch for it, seeing how half the text of my book is highlighted. I wanted to find out what happened to Jill and Mandy and I wanted to fast forward to a couple of years’ time and find out if they got the ending they so desperately wanted and needed. I really enjoyed this book, but there were so so so many times I wanted to grab the characters and shake them and say what are you doing?! Why are you okay with this?! And I know that life doesn’t always go the way you want it to, but there were times I just wanted things to go so differently for these three! But I guess that just shows how invested I was in the characters.

My favourite was Ravi. He’s definitely the kind of boy I would pretend I liked coffee for. Yeah, my love ran deep for Ravi.

I was completely hooked right from the very beginning and flew through it on only three days! It was emotional, heart-wrenching, yet beautiful. Rice depends way too much rehashed info from her own Entertainment Weekly, which is a biased propaganda publication that kisses up to Hollywood instead of offering objective journalism. She even quotes the EW writers she worked with, like about what they thought when interviewing Ellen. Seriously? Seems like space filler and giving credence to those that didn't do a good enough job "reporting" on the show in the first place. If anything this book proves how weak Entertainment Weekly truly is at being more than just a PR tool for Hollywood, and Rice is one of the main ones to go right along with it.

Success!

A heart-stopping, heart-wrenching and heart-warming story that kept me reading well into the night. I loved it' This book takes place over 18 yeras and, believe me, reading it felt like it. The idea is fascinating, but the execution is just plainly dull. Every chapter felt like a chore and every chapter was a hard decision to go on which I regretted later. but wow... actors are truly something else. I don't think people in any other profession/industry simply lose their heads after success like this. truly eye-opening. But why would I bother trawling through my music when I have a stellar song already provided for me? they are both dreadful. add to that a mother who is trying to save the word one gluten-free cookie at a time, and an emo boyfriend who is allowing himself to be doormatted while his girl works through her rage at the world.

After reading the author’s notes to discover the book was inspired by her own experience of saving a life, I found this book even more powerful. The lives of the trio are messy and demonstrate how not everyone’s future is linear and how plans can change suddenly due to circumstances. I was really rooting for Kerry to have the medical career she always wanted and for Joel to find inner peace with how his heart condition controlled his life. And here I am, all of those small hopes getting me from one day to the next, the way they my whole life.” Kerry Smith is going to save lives--and so is her best friend, Tim Palmer. After years of working towards medical school, they are about to sit for their entrance exams. But on the eve of the new millennium, a classmate goes into cardiac arrest, changing everything. As the lives of these two girls blend, they are faced with new challenges and discover new things like the fear the future holds and the strength and support that comes from family.
