With over 300 paints to choose from in the massive Citadel Colour range, where does a budding Golden Demon contender begin? Start with the Battle Ready Paint Set – a collection of 30 essential Base paints and Shades that provide a foundation for any paint scheme you could imagine, including superstars like Nuln Oil, Leadbelcher, Rhinox Hide, and Mechanicus Standard Grey.** Parade Ready Paint Set Custodes are an elite army, so the Custodian Guard are your infantry (at least what’s available in this box), and with only 5 of them, use them wisely – otherwise you may be overwhelmed very easy by horde armies. I once played a game as Death Guard against Custodes, and my opponent found himself overwhelmed by Poxwalkers, Deathshroud Terminators and Bloat Drones – but that’s the cost of fielding an elite army against a conventional one. The Custodian Guard can be built with one as a Shield Captain and one as a Vexilus Praetor – the guy with the flag. Both options offer more power to the unit, but are expensive upgrades at 105 points each so may not be worth it in a Boarding Actions list. Trajann has been in nearly every starter box for these guys so far, but no real issue. Then getting Guards and Allarus is always nice, but when you look at this compared to either the Combat Patrol or the Christmas Battleforce, it just seems like fewer minis, so let’s hope the price reflects that. Boarding Patrol: The Thousand Sons There’s the obvious call for Ahriman but there’s also Exalted Sorcerers or the Infernal Master to add. If you wanted to go big you could go for a Sorcerer in Terminator Armour or even a Daemon Prince. As for the next steps from there you have to figure out what sort of army you really want as you’re still at the bare-bones stage. Do you want to add some beef with the Scarab Occult Terminators? Maybe you want to toss in some Tzaangors for cheaper objective takers? More Rubric Marines is also a valid option. You’ve also got access to some of the might chaos daemon engines out there. And for the heavy hitters you’ve even got a Daemon Prince Primarch in Magnus to consider.

Cinderak City has fallen, but the succession crisis on Necromunda is far from over. The Aranthian Succession: Vaults of Temenos continues the sweeping narrative laid out in Cinderak Burning , as a mysterious Prophet guides hordes of true believers on a pilgrimage to recover holy relics from the depths of Tenemos. In the table below, we’ve outlined the individual values of each kit in the box to give you an idea of what you save. If you just want to paint the army, play it casually and have a bit of everything, the models are still very impressive and it’s a good price for such a big variety of units, representing many different tactical aspects of how the army works.

Both the Allarus Custodians and Custodian Guards do splendidly in range and melee combat. Allarus Custodians have the privilege of Teleport Homer, meaning they can be redeployed elsewhere on the board 9″ away from enemy units. As we’ve covered in previous Boarding Patrol articles, any unit that can disappear and reappear somewhere else is extremely useful and will want to be used very strategically – imagine squatting some beefy Custodians on unclaimed objectives, giving your opponent thought for pause before they consider taking it for themselves. I was very happy with the laser sight effect for my Sternguard. The conversion is simple, but intuitive: I inject medication and accumulate used hypodermic needles. I sterilised some needles and blunted the tips, before inserting them into a pilot hole on the weapon. They’re painted as normal. Medical-grade hypodermic needles provide great strength and flexibility that is perfect for a piece that needs to be perfectly straight, but must resist occasional bumps in transit.
