Gregor Mackenzie gazed out over the hillside above Lochdubh, leaning on his cromach walking staff and admiring his sheep grazing contentedly in the late morning sunshine. Clara never complained, but Hibbert kept on about it until, in the end, he’d been forced to agree that Clara shouldn’t be carrying the peat and that he needed to do something about it. Macbeth’s romance radar is on the fritz while he mourns Dorothy’s death, but fans know he won’t be out of the market for long. W. Green’s first outings as the successor to Marion Beaton’s Hamish Macbeth series, and he captures [Macbeth's] charm .

Green included several myths, real or his version, and description of objects and places adding background, color, and motivation in the drama. As a long time reader of the series, I miss the light charm that used to fill a Hamish Macbeth book, which I read for fun and light entertainment. Torn between loyalty to his local community and his responsibilities as a police officer, he begins threading his way through a maze of deceit, quickly finding himself on the trail of a ruthless, treacherous murderer. This was followed by a move to Fleet Street to the Daily Express where she became chief woman reporter. Death of a Green-Eyed Monster] maintains Beaton's distinctive voice and includes the usual village eccentrics, loads of Scottish lore, and the light humor that Beaton fans have loved through the years. There was no evidence of foul play although neighbors seemed superficial in their concern, and she’d gone off before only to be found vacationing in the south of France. This Hamish Macbeth novel maintains Beaton's distinctive voice and includes the usual village eccentrics, loads of Scottish lore, and the light humor that Beaton fans have loved through the years.

He’d heard nothing about Hibbert taking a holiday and his day was suddenly cheered by the thought that he might be rid of her for a couple of weeks. Hamish Macbeth is one of my favorite mystery series to read, but I was worried that Hamish would have a different feel when R. I see that there will be yet another book in the series and while I'm insure I will read it when it is published, I'm growing tired of this storyline. So when Kate Hibbert disappears after having last been seen struggling along the road with a heavy suitcase, he is convinced she has gone travelling and reluctantly goes through the motions of investigating. I think Green did a fairly good job of keeping Beaton's characters "in character" but he made everything too easy.He scanned the track and the road, waiting for Hibbert to reappear, musing over the problems she had caused. R W Green makes a good effort to stay true to the character, I still really miss the original Hamish.

I want to thank NetGalley and the the publisher for letting me read and review ‘Death of a Traitor’. Recently acquired by Little, Brown Book Group, Constable publishes a diverse range of bestselling fiction and non-fiction titles.

This all takes place outside of Lochdubh, so we briefly see some familiar faces at times, but the villagers are not prominent in the story. C. Beaton book, start reading it and not put it down until I’m done, even if it is after midnight and I have to be up for work sooner than I like. The book is a regular length allowing for a complete experience beyond the main investigation, but it is segmented into only ten chapters challenging my literary OCD.

When Hibbert does eventually resurface, however, a storm of lies, intrigue and scandal threatens Macbeth’s tranquil village of Lochdubh. I kind of gave it a pass in Green-Eyed Monster because the content was so dark, but I'm really noticing now that Chesney's humour is nowhere to be found in this series anymore.Born in Scotland, Beaton started her career writing historical romances under several pseudonyms as well as her maiden name, Marion Chesney. Her books have been translated into seventeen languages and have sold more than twenty-two million copies worldwide. However, I got a bit irritated by his deep mourning for Dorothy, especially as I couldn't remember her much from the last book!
