Attachable and adjustable inflatable seats mean that the kayak is very comfortable, even if you are out on the water for a couple of hours. The Explorer K2 kayak is the least expensive two-person kayak from Intex. Available as a tandem model (that can also be paddled solo), the kayak kit comes with a pump and paddles, so in theory you can buy a personal flotation device (PFD) and safety kit (containing Coast Guard-approved equipment), walk out of the store and get on the water. Rigid testing is performed on all Intex products on a routine basis to make sure they are safe to use. But consumers are also advised to use their products only after reading the user manual. Following the instructions and guidelines set in the user manual is vital to avoid accidents and the misuse and abuse of the products. Conclusion – Intex Excursion Pro Kayak Review Inflatable kayaks are notoriously annoying to carry out of the water, often requiring two to carry comfortably.

Like its smaller sister ship, the Intex Challenger K2 is a general purpose inflatable kayak for beginners at a bargain price. It’s best for recreational paddlers who are looking to have fun on the water, solo or tandem, for an hour or two at a time. If you’re looking to develop your skills or spend more time in the kayak, look at a higher performance (pricier) inflatable kayak to meet your needs. High-pressure inflation that results in extra rigidity and stability, with high-pressure spring-loaded valves for faster and easier inflation and deflation Both brands offer similar performance characteristics and both are meant for use in sheltered, calm water and on gentle rivers with class II whitewater or less.

Should You Buy the Sea Eagle 370 Pro?

Inflatable kayaks generally have the disadvantage compared to fixed hull kayaks that they have a worse directional stability. Therefore a fin can be attached to most inflatable kayaks to improve the directional stability. With our model we unfortunately had to find out that the fin holder is not attached straight. The sloppy mounting of the fin holder is annoying, because it will make the kayak even worse in terms of directional stability. The fin holder of our kayak is not attached straight. If you think you will want an inflatable raft that can be used solo or with a friend, then this is the perfect option. You should read up on displacement (specifically width and length displacement) to find out more about why the length and width of your kayak will influence how stable it it. There are a lot of terms used to refer to the parts of a boat, and while they may seem confusing at first, knowing them will help you to better understand each portion of your craft:

Just behind the seat, there are two removable rod holders, allowing the angling enthusiast to make the most of their inflatable kayak. Anglers will appreciate the extra inflatable seating pad that can be used to raise the seat, giving them a better casting height. This feature is also great for smaller kayakers who benefit from the extra reach. The Intex Excursion Pro Kayak Series is a highly upgradable and customizable kayak that can be easily modified to suit your individual needs and preferences. Many inflatable kayaks are also a lot cheaper than other options, making them perfect for families and/or beginners.

The kayak has 2 built-in fishing rod holders. I didn’t use the Excursion Pro for fishing, but I could see that the rod holders lean inward. If you had 2 fishing rods, they would cross each other, rendering the rod holders incapable of performing their job. What you could do though, is bridge a pipe between the rod holders, and mount Scotty rod holders onto the pipe. The floor of the Excursion Pro is an I-beam, which is typical of kayaks in this category. It is firm enough to sit in without much sagging, but you won’t stand up in it. Also, I’m not too fond of the fact that the paddles break down into five pieces. I understand that it makes them more compact, but it also makes them more flimsy when assembled. Two or three-piece paddles are firmer and nicer to use. Comfort In favour of stability the kayak loses performance on the water. The straight-line stability is only moderate with the three fins. The kayak also glides only slightly through the water when you stop paddling.Due to the wide side tubes we found a 220 cm long double-bladed paddle a bit too short. It is possible to paddle with it, but a paddle at least 230 cm or 240 cm long would be more comfortable, so that it is easier to get into the water with the paddle blades. The running characteristics as a 1-person kayak are rather moderate.

Whether you are looking to buy the boat for solo trips or family ones, you will find the Challenger K2 perfectly sized. The hand pump can be adjusted so it can be used to deflate the kayak faster. How this is done is also demonstrated in the second video I mentioned above. In other words, you won’t have a hard time setting up and folding the Excursion Pro Kayak. Inflating the kayak takes time, and some might find it tiring if a foot pump is used. You can’t launch right away. Keep in mind it is still an inflatable boat though, so you won’t be able to take it out in as rough and rapid conditions as a hardshell alternative.

If you are looking for a beginner kayak to maybe do some touring in, the Sea Eagle is a better choice as it is more rugged, and has a larger capacity.

In addition, the 3 seater can also be interesting for you as a 2 seater kayak, if the load limit and the space offered by the 2-seater seems too little. The 3 seater is another 45 cm longer and has a 50 kg higher load capacity. The rear paddler has much more room to stretch his legs. In addition, the extra space in the middle can be used to carry more luggage or even a dog. With two people, the 3 seater is about 0.5 km/h faster and drifts less when you stop paddling. However, we would not recommend the 3-seater simply because of the minimally better driving characteristics. If you don’t need the extra space and payload, the Itiwit x100+ 2 seater is a good choice. However PVC is not chemical resistant so, even though it can be repaired quite easily, it needs to be protected from any potentially harsh chemicals and conditions. With the Drop-Stitch technology, the upper and lower inner walls of the air chamber are additionally woven with nylon threads. This is the only way to achieve a significantly higher air pressure than with air chambers without the tangled nylon threads. The air chamber thus achieves very good dimensional stability and rigidity. The Drop-Stitch technology is very common for SUP boards (Stand Paddling Boards) and is used more and more for inflatable kayaks. Learn more about this type of inflatable boats, in our buyer’s guide for Drop-Stitch kayaks. Due to the variable placement of the seats, you can paddle it solo as well. In the following photo you can see that the effective length of the boat on the water, i.e. the waterline, is much shorter than the total length of the boat. The reason is that the weight is mainly concentrated in the middle of the boat. Nevertheless, the Excursion Pro can be paddled without problems with a deep water fin. The speed and the directional stability as a 1-person kayak are alright for short trips. Also inflating seats are near imposible as you need to hold valve with one hand and pump with other hand. The Excursion Pro seats are quite comfortable on short trips, considering the fact they’re inflatable. There is a Velcro strip to fix it to the floor and vary its position.
