Both Swimming and Circles are pretty sub-par pressings, but Swimming is especially poor with a lot of surface noise and pops. If you’re not particularly excited about it just get Swimming (there is an UO blue that looks just like it) and Circles separately. Recorded at Hive Mind Studios in Brooklyn, NY, with the help of producer/arrangers Mike Buckley and Vincent Chiarito (both members of Charles Bradley's Extraordinaires) and crack team of a-list musicians, his upcoming album blends heavy arrangements and introspective lyrics with sophistication, leaving the listener in a blissful wash of wonderment. What I can gather from other reviews is that the QC is pretty poor, and you'd have to be quite lucky to land all 4x LP that sounds good. The record seems a little light compared to some others in my collection, but it doesn’t seem to have a negative effect on playbook.

Anyone who has had the pleasure of seeing Jalen perform live knows that he is one of the most captivating performers on today's soul scene. Over its 40 years in business, PIAS has grown to be one of the largest independently-owned music groups in the world, carving out its own in-house recorded music division PIAS [Recordings]. All the production nuances are laid bare and the outstanding bass production on this record sounds great on this pressing too. A routinely great artist, much of Sufjan's universal appeal comes from his skills as a gifted narrator, pairing personal musings on love and devotion with commentary on American culture, whilst welding folk and electronica, the ambient and existential.

Self Care" is one of the realest hip hop singles that I have ever heard, or maybe that's because I am getting out of a relationship right now.

Now with a massively successful US tour opening for sweet soul darlings Thee Sacred Souls behind him, 2023 is sure to be a propitious year for Daptone's newest signee.I mean, I have no complaints aside from a handful of short instances where Mac's performance falls prey to some odd, static-laden bouts of distortion akin to a dodgy radio signal. The album Swimming arrived on the heels of his previously released tracks Small Worlds, Self Care and What's The Use? A highly creative record which pitchfork described as consisting of "wistful soul and warm funk", through his exploration of heartbreak and his own mental health issues. All image and audio content is used by permission of the copyright holders or their agents, and/or according to fair dealing as per the UK Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988. They did still really drop the ball on the inserts: they are completely covered in giant song credits, not a single song lyric in sight—still super neat multi-colored sheets spelling out the word swimming on the other side.

His full length debut on Daptone Records is equal parts raw feeling and elegance and exudes confidence and charm. I'd recommend picking up the albums separately, I don't see any merit in choosing this instead, unless you really like the colour or something. Two of the discs were flat as pancakes, the second LP of swimming was warped and the first one of Circles was just a little warped. Over the last few months he has disarmed packed rooms of rowdy concert goers, leaving them silent as they hold fast to every syllable sung.Record itself sounds quite good -- a few pops and crackles with some static on a couple tracks, but nothing major. Comprised of various labels we know and love at Rough Trade (Bella Union, ATO, Speedy Wunderground, Phantasy, Heavenly, Mute and more) PIAS [Recordings] filter through some of the most diverse artistry to our racks, which we greatly enjoy digging into.
