You should make sure the solution you go for is big enough to take your bike easily. If you have a 56cm road bike with a normal seatpost, you’re unlikely to have a problem with any of the options out there; however, if you take a very big frame, have an integrated seat post (an extended seat tube rather than a separate seat post), or if you have a full-suspension mountain bike, things might get more complicated. The rigid internal fork mounting point accepts both Q/R and Thru-axle wheels and keeps the bike anchored to a removable rail which then becomes part of the deployable workstand. Clever. Specific padded wraps protect the handlebar, rear derailleur, chain and bike frame from damage whilst traveling to keep everything secure and safe while removable rigid side panels are reinforced with 5mm corrugated polypropylene and a moulded HDPE bottom tub provides superior protection. A well-balanced diet is fundamental to cycling performance. Without the right balance of carbs, protein and vitamins, along with fats and sugars – yes, those two are vitally important to have in the right quantities – your training and progression will be compromised. Unlike other books to fall out of working with the Pro Peloton, such as the Magic Spanner by Carlton Kirby, this isn't a kiss and tell or just cycling specific. It’s a record with such a nice ring to it that it almost feels obvious, just inevitable, that of course someone would circumnavigate the globe on a bike in just 80 days.

Doping for money and glory to keep his status, Millar was arrested when it was discovered that he was using performance enhancing drugs. Five years on, Millar wrote this book and opened up about his dark days. It's an old story now, but still one of the best cycling books to read as modern day cycling. Although, be warned, if you're new to the sport, or a young whippersnapper, this can be depressing reading. Some big names have also been impressed such as Elinor Barker, multiple world champion and Olympic gold medallist, who’s said: “Alan has completely changed my perception of what an athlete's diet can look like.” Currently, he’s riding for the UCI Continental team Ribble Weldtite and working for Ineos Grenadiers as a race engineer, helping the team’s riders improve their aerodynamic performance. Even if you're not flying, a bike box, bike bag or flight case can be useful. Sure, you can just put your bike in your car, but if you want to get lots of other luggage in too, a bike bag will protect your bike from bumps and scratches.

The best bike boxes and bike bags 2023, as reviewed by our expert testers

We’ve heard tales of people who thought they’d take their bike abroad in a soft bag or a cardboard bike box and it all going horribly wrong. You might get away with it, of course. You might get away with it many times. But what about that one time when your bike is at the bottom of a tower of cases being sorted by a bloke who’s already late finishing his shift? If you open the book having never heard of the race, you'll close it feeling incredibly educated on the first world war, cycling history, and knowing that you've never really had that hard a day on a bike.

The behind the scenes look at team ANC Halfords was captured by an journalist Jeff Connor who was with the team for the toughest ride of their life. It includes Evoc’s new road bike stand which the brand says helps with easy fixation and extra safe transport. The Thule Roundtrip Pro Bike Case boasts an integrated workstand to help you get you ready to roll on arrival. It is offers protective, semi-rigid and stowable travel protection for your Road or Gravel bike. To any cycling fan Marco Pantani will still be considered on of the best riders the world has ever known.A cycling history book with a difference, Bikes and Bloomers traces the evolution of women’s cycling kit and tells the story of how the humble bicycle contributed to women’s liberation. It draws on in-depth archival research and reminds us just how far we’ve come. These are made from tough plastic or aluminium. They’re the most robust, offering good protection. The trade-off is that they’re usually heavier and more cumbersome than soft cases. 3. Soft bags More of us than ever are travelling with bikes, whether it’s for a holiday, training camp or a race, and it shouldn’t be difficult as long as you do your research when choosing which airline to travel with and how to transport your bike.
