While it’s a tale of warring witch factions, The Bastard Son is also a love story. At the start of the series, despite his community’s utter distrust of Nathan, he’s not the victim that he is in Green’s books. Lycurgo is a lanky streak of charisma, a cheeky, snarky, funny kid whose constant bullying from his big sister Jessica (Isobel Jesper Jones) is brushed off with sarcasm. At school he hangs out with the nerdy kids who don’t know he is a witch, until he meets new girl Annalise (Nadia Parkes), a Fairborne witch whose father is the head of the Fairborne council. Annalise is also funny and silly and doesn’t care who Nathan’s dad is, and the chemistry between the two is palpable.

When I first started reading Half bad, this book was nothing like what I had been expecting, and in truth, this book is in that certain, particular style that I just don't like. The writing style was kinda basic, and it also kind of jumped from first person to second person all the time. In all honesty, this book has a very similar layout to The 5th Wave, and we all know how I felt about that book. However this had better characters and a better story. Significantly better characters and story. The ending to this was okay, and I was pleased that Nathan did finally get something that he wanted. I can’t believe that his life is going to be much better from now on though. Half Wild was released on 24 March 2015. [17] The third and final book in the series, Half Lost, was released in March 2016. [18] Half Bad is set in modern-day Europe, mainly in Britain, where witches and humans (fains) live together. There are two primary types of witches: Blood witches (generally oppressed and written off as evil) and Fairborn witches (the main population). The 17-year-old protagonist, Nathan, is half Fairborn and half Blood, or a Half Code. His mother is dead, and his father, Marcus, is known as the most powerful and the smartest Blood witch in the world. Due his parentage, Nathan's every move is monitored by the Council of Fairborn Witches. He has to follow certain rules, but when he breaks one of them, his Gran is deemed unfit to be his guardian, and he receives a new guardian, Celia. Trapped in a cage and abused by Celia, Nathan has to escape before his seventeenth birthday, when he will receive three gifts from his family and his magical ability, or Gift. Otherwise, he will die. But, as I'm sure you know by now, I wouldn't be at peace with myself if I didn't at least try to explain why. This sounded fine to me in theory but as I wrote HALF BAD I found that I couldn't keep to that initial idea and wanted to mix the perceptions up in the first book. But I still had the idea of the story arc for the three books (the arc of what would happen to Nathan) and I've stayed with that.

When I came up with the idea for HALF BAD I did think it would be a trilogy from the start. This was well before I had an ag …more Hi Justine, Good question. I want to say “Marcus.” He’s my father and I want to say his name, but I’m too afraid. I’m always too afraid to say his name.Oh, hi, Voldemort! When he was 14 a notification was issued that stated he had to be taken by Celia, his new 'teacher and guardian' and raised away from his family. He lived in an outdoor cage for two years, and was assessed regularly, but was taken to London two months before his 17th birthday. It was during the time in his cage that his Gran commits suicide after the council pressured her to do so. I can’t tell you how grateful I am! Let’s always find the positives, and remember sometimes the bad times are the good times xx” Sadly, yes, Netflix have cancelled this. Very proud of it and really liked the people I got to make it with. Sorry not to be able to finish the story…”

Success!

The main character Nathan is great, he is just a fighter and never gives up. He goes through some absolutely terrible things, but he always has hope and keeps control of his mind. His journey is so intriguing and interesting, I just had to keep reading to know more. This is rare for Netflix, but putting our conspiracy theory hat on for a second, we have three theories as to why Netflix would do this: The plot started out really slow, but god damn was it addictive!! I read this in 12 hours. YES YOU HEARD THAT RIGHT. Now, I know I am a really fast reader and I can read a book in day, but 12 hours is insane even for me lol. (I had to stop to go to swimming and to class. Yeahh. Not fun at all, I know. But you know what! I am a responsible person! Ok not really) I love how original and unique this book is! The writing style is so cool and I really like how the timeline is set up. There was a hint of romance in this, but not a lot. I wanted things to work out for Nathan and Annalise, but because she was a white witch and Nathan was a half-code, that seemed to be worse than Romeo and Juliet.
