In this latest instalment, Peter Grant has left the police force and gone to work as a security guard at a tech company where things are not as they seem. Ben seems to be getting a little annoying, however--at one point, he says something about a 'mid-Atlantic' accent.

I did appreciate the explanation Peter gives at one point about how ‘magic’ might force he and Bev’s relationship into different places, but I think that one’s out of the barn, so to speak. And I guess another thing I love about this series – along with the stunning number of culture references Aaronovitch can pack into his books, there’s also the inside jokes and digs that you’ll only get if you’ve been with these characters from the start. I was tempted to tell her that we had a book in our library that had to be restrained from roaming around the Folly on its own, but I didn't trust her enough to be giving away state secrets just to big up my ends. Rather than sit around, he takes a job with emigre Silicon Valley tech genius Terrence Skinner's brand new London start up - the Serious Cybernetics Company. I get it: it’s the eighth book in a series, but I’m seriously getting the feel that it’s getting out of Aaronovitch’s hands. So this isn’t a review per se, just a list of things I thought were interesting and would like to remember.

Johnson tasks Peter with figuring out who is behind the break-in attempts and why, a job made more difficult by Skinner’s refusal to disclose what work is done on Bambleweeny. I’ve a couple of books to read for book group and don’t want to have anything to tempting to read on my kindle lest I distract myself, so I’ll treat myself once I finish the duty-reads.

the Serious Cybernetic Corporation (SCC), is suspected to be up to no good by the Metropolitan Police (esp. Then I would again state that I like them all, and very much enjoy listening to the first album also. Drawn into the orbit of Old Street’s famous ‘silicon roundabout’, Peter must learn how to blend in with people who are both civilians and geekier than he is. Leaving his old police life behind, he takes a job with Silicon Valley tech genius Terrence Skinner's new London start up: the Serious Cybernetics Corporation.
