inch display, a massive 4200 mAH battery with support for wireless charging, and a triple rear camera with telephoto and ultra wide angle lenses. A higher megapixel count means that the front camera is capable of capturing more details, an essential factor for taking high-resolution selfies. Huawei is doing some marvelous power optimization work, too, because I can’t do anything to run down this battery quickly. Note: Huawei has belatedly informed us that the software on our Mate 20 Pro review unit is a pre-release version. Huawei’s latest chip is only consistently beaten in benchmark testing by Apple’s A12 Bionic chip in the latest iPhones, but in the Android space, the Kirin 980 is right up there at the top.The other instant giveaway, of course, are the three rear cameras, arranged in a signature 2x2 grid. Google and Samsung’s big-boy phones, along with Apple’s iPhone XS Max, are the most recent and direct competition that the Mate 20 Pro is going up against, but since I’m less familiar with Apple’s latest phone, I’ll primarily compare against the Pixel 3 XL and Note 9. That means the Mate 20 Pro sometimes produces the most detail of the three, but that noise needs reining in, and that’s why I prefer to keep the AI turned on. The phone is using graphene film cooling technology for thermal management, and is one of the first commercial products to utilize graphene for such purposes. It’s a sliver shorter than the Pixel 3 XL and about the same thickness, but it’s much narrower, which makes it significantly easier to use with one hand.

That puts it ahead of the Google Pixel 3 at 439ppi and just past the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 at around 514ppi. The second is an optical fingerprint sensor embedded directly into the screen about a third of the way up.There’s also 3D live emojis using the front-facing camera to mimic your expressions in cutesy characters just like Apple’s Animoji. While the in-screen sensor certainly makes the Mate 20 Pro easier to unlock than a back-mounted sensor or facial recognition when it’s resting flat, the feature is more cumbersome than a dedicated physical button.

It's still great to have the fingerprint reader as a backup, especially for situations when it's inconvenient to hold the phone to your face. a first number of 6 denotes that it is completely dustproof, and a second number of 7 denotes that the device can withstand full immersion in water. It's hardly breaking new ground, design-wise -- the curving glass and metal approach is reminiscent of the Galaxy S9 -- but it looks great nonetheless, particularly in the jazzy blue-purple Twilight colour. The Porsche Design Huawei Mate 20 RS is a special edition of the Mate 20 Pro; its rear cover has a racing stripe motif with two stripes of leather, while it features 256 or 512 GB of storage, and 8 GB of RAM. Most of the time, Huawei’s 3D Face Unlock had recognized me before I had even laid my finger on the screen. You just have to touch the display with your finger and the phone will get unlocked almost instantly. Unfortunately I haven't been given a UK version of this plug so I'm yet to fully test this, but the European plug I tried it with -- used via an adapter -- did seem to charge quickly.
