During testing, we found this webcam to not only handle dark shadows and bright highlights impressively well, preserving detail in those areas better than all the other pro-level webcams we've tested, but also deliver impressive noise reduction without unnatural smoothing. What's more, its autofocusing is snappy in well-lit situations and its autoexposure is always spot on – although you can take the helm and make creative exposures yourself, thanks to the improved Camera Hub software that gives you plenty of autonomy over the webcam's settings. Its quality proved to be decent during testing, above average for a webcam. But, it's the mic customizations that really impressed us, allowing you to alter the recording volume, or switch between different optimization modes such as 'Wind’ and 'Music’, as well as a manual Audio Gain Control. For some people, the Logitech Mevo Start will be overkill, offering features that just aren't needed. But for people live streaming events, for example, the Logitech Mevo Start is a brilliant investment. You need a wide field of view: The StreamCam is set to a 78-degree FOV, so you can't get any wide room shots.

We would put the Elgato Facecam Pro at the top if it wasn't for its steep price tag. As expensive as it is, this is the best webcam you can buy, especially if you're a streamer, a TikTok creator, or a vlogger. At its center is that 4K at 60fps video resolution – it's the first webcam in the world to do so – thanks to that 1/1.8-inch Sony Starvis sensor that's also responsible for its exceptional dynamic range. Key specs – Resolution: 1080p at 30fps, 720p at 60fps; Focus: Autofocus; Audio: Omnidirectional microphones; Mount type: Clip stand; Cable length: 1.5mIt's got a built-in mic, though the audio quality is disappointing. The mic performs noise cancellation, but you can't turn it off or adjust it, and I heard quite a bit of popping and tinniness on my end. Its onboard microphones aren’t the best we’ve seen and it carries a hefty price tag but for online presentations and video demonstrations, the Link’s flexibility is unrivalled. We found its picture quality to be great out of the box. And, when cost, quality, and performance are all calculated, the C920 is still one of the best everyday webcams you can buy, despite being almost a decade old. You need higher-resolution footage: Limited to 720p, this isn't going to offer the sharpest image quality.

These come in a billion different sizes and shapes, but the mounts -- the physical clip that lets you perch it on your screen -- are all very similar and tend to be stable but cumbersome. There's no "best" design, but if you want to use it on a laptop, you may want to avoid the big, clunky models. The first thing to consider is what you need your webcam for. For working professionals or office staff, most conference calling software such as Zoom or Microsoft Teams will restrict your broadcast quality to 1080p resolution and 30fps to preserve bandwidth. Google meets goes a step further and restricts your quality to 720p as this is the standard resolution on most built-in laptop cameras. You want fast autofocusing: It struggles to keep up with the Auto Framing feature and during low-light situations. Nexigo's software isn't pretty, but some of it's a lot more functional than much of what I've used. For instance, the manual white balance actually works well along a continuum rather than just giving you a choice between too pink or too green. It also allows you to save presets for all the adjustable settings. It doesn't currently work with MacOS Monterey, so I couldn't test that, but the company promises an update to support the latest version of the OS within the next couple of months.

Logitech, Razer and other well-known webcam manufacturers can provide a product that is more likely to work well across a wide range of different machines, so whether you're looking to run your camera on a new gaming desktop or an old Chromebook, you should see similar results. You need a cheap webcam: This is an expensive webcam and there are certainly cheaper products on the market for anyone who can't stretch their budget. And improving your environmentwith good lighting or a better angle can frequently enhance the quality of your webcam video more than upgrading the camera itself. And even in an ideal environment, the best webcam won't necessarily deliver great video and audio quality on the other end -- that can depend on the consistency and quality of your network connection as well as the software you're using.Videoconferencing software, for example, tends to aggressively process the video for smoother and more consistent transmission over the network rather than looking great. Price All in all, it’s a tremendously good little webcam; a little more expensive than the usual, perhaps, but you do get a lot for your money. There are some aspects I don't like as much. In software, you can zoom continuously between 1x and 2x, but the gesture control only takes you all the way in or out, while 1.5x is probably your best general choice. And since it's 1080p, the 2x digital zoom doesn't look great. While the auto white balance and exposure works pretty well, it doesn't handle low light as well as the cheaper Anker, which can also do 1080p at 60fps (the Tiny is limited to 30fps). The latter wouldn't be as much of an issue if the utility had some image controls, but the Obsbot relies entirely on Windows' meh settings dialog, and even then supports onlywhite balance and exposure. You can change aperture, but that setting doesn't seem to do anything on any webcam I've tested thus far.

You want insanely high-quality video: There are certainly more powerful products on the market if you're willing to empty your wallet. Not that Razer's webcams need any with noise handling anyway, as they've always done so well on that front, and the Kiyo Pro Ultra does it even better. That's not all. On test, its autofocus proved not just snappy but butter-smooth as well, and the fact that the Razer Synapse gives you manual control over focusing (as well as exposures, digital zooming and panning, and more) gives you a level of customizations you'll be hard-pressed to get with most other webcams. One thing to consider when buying a webcam for a Mac is that there are no controls built into the operating system and Windows doesn't really expose the settings (for good reason). If you want to adjust exposure, zoom, white balance -- anything really -- then the support needs to be built into the specific application or into a utility that comes with the camera. And autoexposure can be wrong at unexpected times. You need to make occasional calls: This is a very pricey investment if you're not planning to use it for broadcasting regularly. You already own a decent mirrorless camera: If you already own a camera that would be suitable for streaming with then there's a better choice.
