The next track, "Danceway" written by keyboardist Jimmy Destri (the songs he wrote for the band are genius) steps slightly away from the jungle theme. I love the dark simplicity of the final track, "The Hunter Gets Captured By the Game" which is a cover written by Smokey Robinson (performed by The Marvelettes). War Child”: a fierce electro-disco with stabs of percussion and wind instruments – again, a faultless track. Blondie were contractually bound to deliver another new studio album to Chrysalis, and no amount of legal wrangling or attempts to get out of it worked. At the least, it’ll have you wondering just how far an erstwhile New Wave pop group can row itself away from the mainstream before it finds itself out of the current altogether.

I also feel like this is another reason why some Blondie fans don't care for it, but I find the sound/various themes very refreshing. War Child was largely ignored outside of the United Kingdom and Ireland (where it reached 39 and 21, respectively). At this point in their career it's obvious the band was going to break up soon enough unfortunately; I'm of the mind that believes they still had more to deliver in the early 80s, but perhaps The Hunter isn't that bad of a send off in hindsight.

For war child alone, this gets 4 stars, the rest of the album is best described as patchy, which is sad in a way because every album up to this point in Blondie's career was pretty much without fault.By and large, though, The Hunter is an album of icy, otherworldly moods for moderns, a looking glass trained upon our own peculiar, self-consuming social mores. It ain't the worst thing I've heard in a while, but it's easily the worst Blondie album I've checked out so far, with potential strong cuts like "Dragonfly" getting tarnished with dumb moments, though I do like the Bond film toss-off. Only two singles were released from the album, Island Of Lost Souls (b-side: Dragonfly) and War Child (b-side: Little Ceasar). Though Harry’s pancultural heart is in the right place, her rap diction is about as convincing as, say, trying to imagine Dick Clark belting out “Soul Man. The Hunter was digitally remastered and reissued by Chrysalis Records UK in 1994, and again by EMI-Capitol in 2001, both times with the 12″ version of "War Child" as the only bonus track.

The high amount of reverb plus the lack of general sharpness makes this shit sound too airy and distant for this kind of music. It's the most underappreciated of Blondie's works, and despite the fact that much of it was forced out it's nowhere near as bad as it's made out to be. Little Caesar" is a strange little ditty, but I really have a soft spot for it because it's so unique and quirky. The Hunter would not be followed up until 17 years later when Blondie reformed and released their seventh studio album No Exit. For Your Eyes Only”: a cunning stylistic amalgam that could fit nicely among Parallel Lines’ reinventions of ’60s pop. I wouldn't say it's all bad, but there's some real duds to contend with, and a decent track like "War Child" could've benefited with a better with a tighter sound.
