Description

Since this is a standard circulation coin, it has been issued into circulation numerous times between 2004-2016. There are no special Proof versions. There are small differences on the reverse side that indicate the location and the die used to stamp the coin. The ‘PM’ mintmark is on the left and indicates that it was minted at the Pobjoy Mint. The ‘AA’ or some two letter combination on the lower right indicates which die was used. Other Isle of Man Coins Beware of recent Chinese made forgeries of the dateless 20p. The fakes usually have a proof-like appearance and the Queen’s eye and hair detail looks wrong (among other minor differences). Heraldic English rose, royally crowned. ‘TWENTY PENCE’ and the date on either side. ’20’ below the rose. An example is when a mistake is made by the Royal Mint, like a 20p without a date, for example, or a 1983 2p coin accidentally printed with the old wording 'New Pence'.

The first minting had a swimmer with waves obscuring her face but the designer didn't want that, so they unobscured her face and made it clear of wavy lines. That’s now quite collectable." During this period, a series of blank 1ps managed to get caught up in the presses - ending up as 20ps instead. This meant they all came out all bronze. Notes for 1992: A slight enlargement was made to the Queen’s head during 1992 leading to two slightly different coins being made that year. The variety only exists for 1992. All of the 1993-1997 coins use the larger head and all of the 1985-1991 coins bear the smaller head.

When Was The Castle Rushen Clock 20p Minted?

Alan then took it to America's oldest coin authentication and grading service, who confirmed it to be a mix of foreign metal - a copper plated steel blank - and UK coinage. Like many rare coins in the UK you need to know what you’re looking for and whilst 20p coins haven’t become quite as collectable as the 50p and 10p coins that have been minted in recent times, they can still fetch many many times their face value. Where To Find Rare 20p’s Estimates have varied over the years but the Royal Mint claims no more than 250,000 coins ever made it into circulation. If you have one, it's worth getting it verified by the Mint before having it valued. Find out about 1987 Three Fish 20p here including value, rarity, demand and availability. Coin values and guidance based on real world offers of rare coins for sale to coin collectors. This is actually a coin minted on the Isle of Man which features three herrings on a shield. However, people also refer to it as the three fish 20p – because that’s what it looks like (a bit like a game of Catchphrase – say what you see).

Looking for rare 20p coins? Most people don’t think of 20p coins as being rare, as the design has stayed almost identical to the first coins minted. Don’t be fooled, some of them are quite valuable. The Worth of Rare 20p Coins The coin subsequently failed to be detected by our inspection procedure and was allowed to enter circulation.” The coin was issued on the Isle of Man by the Isle of Man Treasury, rather than the Royal Mint which produces coins in the UK. Due to this, the official mintage numbers are unknown. If you’re interested in other coins from the Isle of Man, Chancery Coins also has the Milner’s Tower 50p. SpecificationsDubbed one of the rarest coins to date, the bronze 20p coin was the result of a Royal Mint mix-up between 1982 and 1990. This is similar to other Isle of Man coins, such as the 1997 TT 50p, that are also sought after by collectors. Regularly Found In The UK Castle Rushen is a medieval castle located on the Isle of Man. The castle has been used as a mint since the 13th century, and the 20p coin was first minted there in 1998. The Albert Tower was built to commemorate the Royal Visit of Prince Albert and Queen Victoria in 1847. Prince Albert was rowed ashore at Ballure where he made his way up the glen. Then into Lhergy Frissel where he climbed to the top of the hill. There he viewed the surrounding town of Ramsey and the northern plan. The hill was renamed Albert Mount and a year later the foundation of the tower was laid. Made of granite and rising 45 feet high, the tower stands as a landmark not only for Ramsey but also for the Isle of Man. Manage my collection The significance of the castle is twofold. First, it is a symbol of the island’s history and culture. The castle was built in 1266 by Magnus III, King of Mann and the Isles, and served as a royal residence for centuries. Today, it is one of the Isle of Man’s most popular tourist attractions.Note that for 2008, for 2009 and possibly 2010 a reverse die break seems to have occurred leading to some coin reverses appearing to have an upside down ‘1’ in the middle of the raised rim at the bottom of the reverse as shown below.
