Description

The pharmacokinetics of Colecalciferol have been widely studied and are well-known. Colecalciferol from nutritional sources is almost completely absorbed from within the gastro-intestinal tract in the presence of dietary lipids and bile acids. Colecalciferol is stored in fat cells and its biological half-life is approximately 50 days. A normalisation of hypercalcaemia due to vitamin D intoxication lasts several weeks. The recommendation for the treatment of hypercalcaemia is the avoidance of any further administration of vitamin D, including supplements, dietary intakes and the avoidance of sunlight. A low calcium or calcium-free diet can also be considered. An alternative unlicensed product is available for those with nut allergies - named patient use only. Cost in primary care may differ significantly. Colecalciferol and its metabolites are excreted in breast milk. Overdose in infants induced by nursing mothers has not been observed but allowance for any maternal dose should be made when prescribing vitamin D products to a breast-fed child.

Restricted for the dietary management of patients with cystic fibrosis on the specific recommendation of a specialist in cystic fibrosis. ONE drop of One-Alpha 2microgram/mL oral drops contains 0.1microgram alfacalcidol. (See tableof liquid medicines requiring dose adjustment) Specialist is defined by the APC as a clinician who has undertaken an appropriate formal qualification or recognised training programme within the described area of practice and has a working experience and knowledge within a speciality areaVitamin D is one of the only vitamins that your body can produce by itself. What is the catalyst that gets your D production going? Good old fashioned sunshine! It’s the ultraviolet-B radiation (UVB) that enables vitamin D production to occur in the skin.

Simultaneous administration of benzothiadiazine derivatives (thiazide diuretics) increases the risk of hypercalcaemia because they decrease the calcium excretion in the urine. The calcium levels in plasma and urine should therefore be monitored for patients undergoing long-term treatment. If you are unsure whether Valupak Vitamin D 3 is safe for you, speak to your doctor or ask a pharmacist for advice. Who Should Not Take Valupak Vitamin D 3? Colecalciferol 1000 IU Capsules should not be taken by patients with a tendency to form calcium-containing renal calculi. Taking Valupak Vitamin D 3 supplements will boost the vitamin D within the body, keeping us healthy. Valupak Vitamin D 3 is suitable for vegetarians but is not suitable for vegans since D 3 contains lanolin. Who Should Get Medical Advice Before Using Valupak Vitamin D 3?Deficiency of vitamin D may occur when your diet or lifestyle does not provide you with enough vitamin D or when your body requires more vitamin D (for instance when you are pregnant). For routine dosing schedules see Nottinghamshire guidelines below. Higher doses may be used when a loading dose of Vitamin D is required prior to IV bisphosphonates (see zoledronic acid SPC). Medicines suitable to be prescribed in primary care / general practice after specialist* recommendation or initiation. Medicines that should be initiated by a specialist and prescribed by primary care prescribers only under a shared care protocol, once the patient has been stabilised.

Colecalciferol is metabolised by microsomal hydroxylase to form 25-hydroxycolecalciferol (25(OH)D 3, calcidiol), the primary storage form of vitamin D 3. 25(OH)D 3 undergoes a secondary hydroxylation within the kidney to form the predominant active metabolite 1,25-hydroxycolecalciferol (1,25(OH) 2D 3, calcitriol). The metabolites circulate in the blood bound to a specific α-globin.These tablets could also be beneficial to those working indoors during the day or people who are housebound and unable to get into their garden. You mayy have also been advised by your GP to take low dose vitamin D long term if you have previously suffered with low vitamin D. In primary care should be prescribed as Vitamins A and D capsules BPC 1973. 1 capsule = vitamin A 4000 units and vitamin D 400 units. Because Vitamin D promotes calcium absorption, it is important for bone mineralization (hardening), which keeps your bones strong and supple. A sufficient amount of Vitamin D helps prevent joint pain and osteoporosis. Grey / Non-Formulary (no formal assessment): APC has not formally reviewed this medicine or indication because it had never been requested for formulary inclusion. Often used for drugs new to market. The active ingredient colecalciferol is identical to the Colecalciferol that is found in the human body. It is found in the diet and is also produced in the skin after exposure to the sun.
