It gives you a sense of community and bonds you with strangers in a world that can be pretty isolating and harsh.

If you think chanting in a yoga class is the best thing ever, then good for you (even though it makes me want to gouge my eyes out with steaming-hot pokers).Even with her ridiculousness, silly stories, and obsession with ranch dressing, she has an important message. I’m an avid listener of her podcast, and I felt like 95% of this book are stories and topics I’ve already heard. I walked away thinking that Stassi’s great effort, assumedly targeting a young and impressionable female audience, was more a way to recruit readers onto her runaway train headed off the cliff of reality. The book did give some insight into the inner workings of Vanderpump rules (which is what I was more or less looking for). I got this and Off with My Head: The Definitive Basic B*tch Handbook to Surviving Rock Bottom from the library, so we'll see if she has something more interesting to say after getting cancelled.

The writing wasn't great but the message of the book was good and it left me feeling more confident when I was done reading it. For those of you who don't know who Stassi is, she's on a famous reality TV show and she is the most Basic B you'll ever meet. Originally from New Orleans, she now lives in Los Angeles, where she films and hosts her popular podcast Straight Up with Stassi.She confesses some pretty embarrassing facts: like how she awkwardly lost her virginity, how she experimented with a lot of, ahem, unflattering fashion stages, or how she is DEEPLY fascinated with serial killers. This chapter is so interesting because for the first time she becomes slightly self-aware saying, “I was ignorant because I am a privileged white girl who grew up without much adversity, so who the eff am I to make a comment about anything? You get a full chapter walking you back on everything she’s laid a foundation for in previous chapters and how her “next level basic” manifesto has ultimately led to her fall from public grace.
