Despite being a sweet gourmand fragrance, this is completely non-cloying and wearable in the summer. Even though it's sweet and very intoxicating in a good way yet at the same time ( this amazes me ) it doesn't get cloying at all! Amber, frankincense, and vanilla, this is a wonderful introduction into an Arabic Oriental without veering into "Orientalism" or a parody of Arabic scents. Not a subtle scent--projection and longevity are pure beast--so I would dare to say you could get away with wearing this to work if you live in the Middle East like I do.

I don’t know if the notes are the result of the very fruited, purple patchouli, of the “pink pepper” berries mentioned in one list, of both elements together, or something else entirely. You smell the scent, it smells nice, and then a moment later you smell the oud, and you think, yes that smells kind of dirty and smirks at that, but just a sexy dirty.I don't dare to press all the way down on the sprayer, just a very light spray on the wrist and neck is all I need. IMHO, much better and more balanced than the original Kalemat, which is nice but more leathery, animalic and for me more difficult to wear. i believe that Montale still holds the records when it comes to longevity and projection - however this house makes better concoctions they have better compositions and a better Perfumer of course their blends are truly fantastic ! And indeed in interesting journey unraveling the pages of it's development and teaching me in an olfactory way to "never judge a book by it's cover" ; never judge a scent by the first sniffs.

There's a gourmand touch to it, it's delicious smelling but not something you would necessarily eat. Something about it has a scratchy steeliness, which I realise makes no sense unless you’ve actually tried Sehr el Kalemat for yourself. And then about an hour the Oud and the Vanilla and the amber and the Basil rise up imploding from your skin into your aura. And midway in the conversation she was like "hey, what is that sweet wonderful smell I am smelling".this smokey, boozy, vanilla spicy fragrance, it's one of my top favorite fragrances, I have a huge complaint though, the bottle.

At first when I first tried it, I thought this was a light fragrance which only smelled like a subdued ashy scent with some kind of sweetness in the background. The cocoa was a rich, almost buttery, thick chocolate with a nutty undertone that soon mixed with a very custardy vanilla in the base. It’s an oddly overwrought, jangling bouquet of opposites, as if Arabian Oud threw every contradictory thing that it had at the basic, original Kalemat structure.

The note that you find metallic is arid to me, and it may be that it fits in somehow with our cold, dry high-desert In Kalemat, it is dry cedar and frankincense, not burnt guaiac, which are at play, and that makes a difference for me personally.

I can see some men vastly preferring Sehr el Kalemat to Kalemat because of the significantly greater facade of dry, burnt smokiness, as well as the more noticeable oud element. It took my quite some time to review this fragrance on Fragrantica because I had to make some time to really try to encapsulate in words what this fragrance is all about in my most respectful honest opinion. There are hints of a dry smokiness underlying Sehr el Kalemat, but it never feels like actual frankincense.There aren’t really any in-depth, detailed reviews for Sehr el Kalemat that I can provide for comparative purposes.
