Description

A top of Hekate is a golden sphere enclosing a lapis lazuli in its middle that is twisted through a cow-hide leather thong and having engraved letters all over it. [Diviners] spin this sphere and make invocations. Such things they call charms, whether it is the matter of a spherical object, or a triangular one, or some other shape. While spinning them, they call out unintelligible or beast-like sounds, laughing and flailing at the air. [Hekate] teaches the taketes to operate, that is the movement of the top, as if it had an ineffable power. It is called the top of Hekate because it is dedicated to her. In her right hand she held the source of the virtues. But it is all nonsense." As quoted in Frank R. Trombley, Hellenic Religion and Christianization, C. 370–529, Brill, 1993, p. 319. Spellcasting is an art that must NOT be taken carelessly. Shakespeare, William (c. 1605) [ c. 1603–1607]. Macbeth. actIII, scene5, line1. Why, how now, Hecat! Athenaeus of Naucratis, drawing on the etymological speculation of Apollodorus of Athens, notes that the red mullet is sacred to Hecate, "on account of the resemblance of their names; for that the goddess is trimorphos, of a triple form". The Greek word for mullet was trigle and later trigla. He goes on to quote a fragment of verse: Aside from her own temples, Hecate was also worshipped in the sanctuaries of other gods, where she was apparently sometimes given her own space. A round stone altar dedicated to the goddess was found in the Delphinion (a temple dedicated to Apollo) at Miletus. Dated to the 7th century BCE, this is one of the oldest known artefacts dedicated to the worship of Hecate. [14] In association with her worship alongside Apollo at Miletus, worshipers used a unique form of offering: they would place stone cubes, often wreathes, known as γυλλοι ( gylloi) as protective offerings at the door or gateway. [14] [91] There was an area sacred to Hecate in the precincts of the Temple of Artemis at Ephesus, where the priests, megabyzi, officiated. [92] This sanctuary was called Hecatesion (Shrine of Hecate). [93] Hecate was also worshipped in the Temple of Athena in Titane: "In Titane there is also a sanctuary of Athena, into which they bring up the image of Koronis [mother of Asklepios] ... The sanctuary is built upon a hill, at the bottom of which is an Altar of the Winds, and on it the priest sacrifices to the winds one night in every year. He also performs other secret rites [of Hecate] at four pits, taming the fierceness of the blasts [of the winds], and he is said to chant as well the charms of Medea." [94] She was most commonly worshipped in nature, where she had many natural sanctuaries. An important sanctuary of Hecate was a holy cave on the island of Samothrake called Zerynthos:

Well, I once come to doctor, seems there’s no serious health issue on me……I wonder if is the demon or some evil spirits is disturbing me..or just the OCD? Will god and godness be angry with these thoughts?(I really really really didn’t mean to think about those blasphemous things…) Will praying to the goddess help with this?

Relief of triplicate Hekate. Three female figures framed in aedicula, with high poloi on their heads, dressed in chiton and peplos, holding torches in their hands. When should I create it? Plutarch. Roman Questions, 49; Scholiast on Theocritus, ii, 12; Apollonius Rhodius. Argonautica iii, 1032. Because Hecate is a ruler of the crossroads, rituals done at the crossroads honor and invoke her energy. If you live in an urban area, it may be hard to find a 3-way crossroads to perform ritual. In this case, mark out a 3-way crossroads on the ground with large branches as a symbolic crossroads of sorts. Otherwise, candle spells, invocations, and offerings at 3-way crossroads are a powerful way to call on her. Don’t forget to gather a bit of crossroads dirt and use it in your Hecate rituals, meditations, and more. 5. Hecate in Greek mythology

Dogs were sacred to Hecate and associated with roads, domestic spaces, purification, and spirits of the dead. Dogs were also sacrificed to the road. [86] A friend sent me a link to your article.I am utmost and foremost a Priestess of Hecate! She called to me in a dream 30 years ago today! At that time i had no idea who this lady in my dream was. I asked her her name and she Hecate. I said who and she told me to look it up. LOL she has a great sense of humor. We have journeyed together ever since! I have and am doing everything you list and more. She does get a bad rap as a dark diety but as you said she is so much more than that. Yes she can be blunt, harsh and a badass. She is also very caring, loyal and devoted to those that are hers. She very much requires you to take action on her behalf but also your own behalf. There are mutliple groups that honor and follow her on facebook, YouTube and in person for those interested in finding others thst are in relationship with her. Thank you so much for your article, as her Priestess and follower it so nice to find like hearted people that share and honor her and her ways. Namaste, in hope, joy, love and serenity!
