As it settled unto my skin I noticed the powdery iris and musk peak through which made it a more comforting scent. His fragrances tell stories of other places and times but remain enduring classics, coveted for their provocative allure and distinctive character.

Cellier made Fracas four years after the release of her Bandit, that infamous, legendary leather chypre that is the black light to Fracas’ white one. This is terribly out of date and out of touch with today's fragrances but all the more reason for me to appreciate it and wear it to be a non-conformist perfumista. Before too long, I found that the gold standard against which all other tuberose perfumes seem to be compared is Fracas.I’m a tiny bit disappointed this isn’t the beast mode, mega sillage perfume I was led to believe it was but floral perfumes don’t really last too long on me anyway, unless they are rose and oud combinations.

I won’t even bother to go into the notes since they are so noxious that I could not identify a single one as I ran screaming for the shower. Cellier, then one of the only women working as a "nose" in formal perfumery, dedicated it to actress Edwige Feuillère, who had been the object of scandal when she appeared nude in the 1935 film Lucrezia Borgia. It's like sitting in your favorite outdoor space enjoying a peach tea on a bright sunny day near a beautiful flower garden filled with many flowers, but the tuberose and gardenia are the most prominent. Cellier even dedicated Fracas to Edwige Feuillère, an actress notorious for having appeared naked (! The floral notes that I can detect behind the mothball, chalk dust, and cat pee haze are realistic and dewy.

However , I do agree that Fracas is more similar to Madonna’s Truth or Dare which I actually prefer . I loved the actual fragrance but this has explosive projection which seems to last for over 8 hours from one spray . Not in the same way as over-the-top "sexy" perfumes that try to evoke that moment with musk and animalic notes.

Here, legendary perfumer, Germaine Cellier, sought to create a scent that would make its wearer feel like a bombshell; one that would leave an unsettling effect on everyone that encountered it. The old bottle has softer notes -tuberose apart- and Violet, Bergamot and Jasmin appear almost smudged, "blurred", "overlapped", almost non recognizable each other. Turin, while often hilarious, does NOT seem to share my tastes and I’ve had many moments of absolute bafflement while reading his reviews… I sometimes wonder if we’re even smelling the same perfume. For over 40 years, Parfums De France has been an authorized dealer of the world's finest fragrances. Intoxicating fragrance in Parisian style, known for its refined simplicity, and as an object of desire for women all over the world. The fragrance was not the same, the power was not there, it was like a watery ghost of the fragrance I have loved for many years.

The florals are to die for, orange blossom, tuberose and jasmine melding together make my heart flutter. In the New York Times article, Chandler Burr explains that tuberose “is notorious among perfumers for being a difficult raw material to master” and that perhaps only Cellier could have managed to create a scent like Fracas.I literally feel like I’m being smothered to death by a powder puff of screeching geriatric florals.
