If you’re seeing bubbles in the varnished surface while brushing or rolling & tipping, make a final pass with the brush very slowly over the area, using very light pressure. This action will remove the bubbles. Fiberglass, wood, aluminum, steel, and previously applied epoxy products or two-component urethanes in good condition Scrapers for removing old varnish. Pull scrapers offer the best results with the least amount of effort and gouge potential.Regular maintenance is key in keeping a varnished finish looking fresh and flawless. The major causes of damage are the sun’s ultraviolet rays, water, and abrasion. TotalBoat Halcyon’s advanced water-based formula is simple to use and very forgiving, producing beautiful, consistent, level results with just a foam brush. It flows on easily and is much easier to work with than oil-based varnishes, synthetic marine wood finishes, and even other waterborne marine polyurethane finishes. And there’s really no cleanup. Just leave the mixing tip attached and let it cure. When you’re ready to use it again, just change out the old mixing tip for a new one. For longer term storage, remove the mixing tip and toss it, then replace the Thixo cap. It’s also much easier to store onboard – or anywhere else, for that matter. If you want the fastest cure and shortest pot life, or if you’re working in cooler temperatures, use the High Performance Fast Hardener. For most common applications, use the High Performance Medium Hardener. If you’re working in warm conditions, or you need a longer working time, use the High Performance Slow Hardener. Likewise if you’re new to using epoxy resin, you may find the extended pot life and cure time helpful. All of its 'lows' are its high points High Performance Medium Kit – Use the High Performance Medium Kit for most common applications, or for an overnight cure at room temperature (77°F).

There are so many beautiful finishes available, too–from rubbed effect and matte to super high gloss. Though products and formulas have changed over the years, there are two main categories of varnish: traditional spar varnish and modern, hard-finish varnishes. Epoxy resin kit options include quart or gallon sizes of 5:1 Epoxy Resin, with your choice of Fast or Slow hardeners, and with or without pumps, and cups. Consistency and UV stability are hallmarks of the available Wet Edge boat paint colors. From serene to bold and brilliant, these colors will always look as good as the day they were laid down. If you want to make your own color, just mix any of the existing Wet Edge boat paint colors. Wet Edge Paint Details Most one- and two-part varnishes can be applied using a brush, a foam roller and brush (roll & tip method), or some type of sprayer (airless, HVLP, etc.). There’s even varnish that comes in an aerosol can! Setting up and adjusting spray equipment takes time, as does cleaning the equipment. But you don’t need professional spray equipment to get professional results. Finishes can range from head-turning high-gloss to low-sheen satin to matte (flat), depending on the look you’re going for. When the desired finish is anything but high-gloss, we always recommend using high gloss for build coats, then 1-2 coats of the desired satin or matte finish.
