To this day (24/09/14) I still haven’t tried the 8 year old. I’ve tried the 5 year old (for which I paid more than I would have paid for the 8 year old), 12 year old and this.

I’ve also bought 3 bottles of their 15 year old. It’s not going to take a genius to work out how this review is heading……. I’ve tasted quite a bit of White Rum lately and built up a fairly decent collection. To date I think the Lemon Hart White Rum has boasted the best score with most getting an average 2 star rating. Which I think is perfectly appropriate for what is mostly an unaged mixing spirit.

(Thanks to Helmut from schlimmerdurst.net for the info). It seems that the recent standard range offering, given that this is not a one-batch experiment, has reduced the rums‘ sugar content in 2019 with the new label and then drastically again in 2020. To illustrate let’s see the hydrometer measurements in comparison: Hydrometer readings Upon looking at the 12 year old it immediately comes to mind that the rum is definitely slightly lighter than its 15 year old counterpart. I assume this is down to it spending less time in the bourbon barrels, amongst other things it is noted that these are very different rums from different stills etc. Upon tasting it is also noticeable that it isn’t quite as oaky as the 15 year old. It’s sweeter with more delicate fruit flavours coming to the fore. Rather than rum soaked raisins it’s more just raisin. The differences between the two are quite subtle but are evident enough to my palate I’m not being chronological in my reviewing of the El Dorado rums. I have had in my cabinet for some time a bottle (or two) of the 15 year old (Discounted very briefly at Aldi). However, as I write this review I have yet to review the 15 year old. Though I have one written in my head! I have even tasted the 15 year old alongside the 12 year old in this review. What a great excuse!
