Post 100Hz to around the upper bass (250Hz) almost into the lower midrange and you get that big dip. On the one hand, it keeps the DT 1770 PRO from sounding overly warm and boomy preventing bass bleed but messes a little with the fundamentals keeping it a bit on the leaner side. Due to its closed design with a high ambient noise attenuation and an enormous maximum sound pressure level, the DT 1770 PRO is ideal for musicians, sound engineers and producers for professional studio or monitoring applications. The efficient Tesla 2.0 drivers ensure a perfect sound with an excellent resolution, spaciousness and high output level. Perfect for mixing and mastering in the studio. Their extremely high level of efficiency is useful for users in loud environments such as sound engineers when listening to PA systems or musicians.”

Lastly, but more importantly, it is still very much a studio (Pro) headphone and is tuned to deliver on that in much the same way as the Philips A5-Pro.I love the braided cable, though. It would be a great cable if it wasn't so microphonic (as all the Beyerdynamic cables, really). I can't stress HIGHLY microphonic enough. There's a fan behind me that's turned on during the summer and if I don't play anything I can hear the vibrations of the moving air touching the cable. That's crazy. These are the genuine MADE IN G E RM A NY article from the world's oldest and best maker of professional headphones for almost 100 years; these aren't rubbish from China. The efficiency of the Tesla drivers in the DT 1770 PRO is an excellent upgrade on the older 250-ohm version and certainly, the gap between it and the 32 ohm DT770 is not as substantial as you might think. DAPs with decent amps are possible with the new Cayin i5 only having a 5-10 digital step volume gap between the two headphones on its high gain setting. This is a Pro range headphone built for studio use and as such the DT 1770 PRO is built like the proverbial tank. Rather than take the bendy Mr. Fantastic approach of AiAiAi, Beyer has opted to stay with the traditional utilitarian lines of the DT series.

Go right ahead and use a dedicated headphone amplifier if you insist (I love my Benchmark DAC1 HDR), but honestly, they also sound fantastic plugged right into an iPad, iPhone, iPod or with Apple's Lightning to 3.5mm adapter or Apple's USB-C to 3.5mm Adapter. Really nice post. I am owning a DT1770 now too and it is a lovely can but I do agree with the minor faults described above. However I am not willing to void the warranty of these things and I've decided to take a different path. The only thing I could say negative about these earphones. It's not super comfortable wearing them for more than a couple of hours. It's too tight and a little heavy for me to wear phones all day. That's it, all minuses I could find.Comes in one universal 250Ω impedance rather than the bewildering array of 32Ω, 250 Ω and 600 Ω versions of the DT770.

Similar to the older DT770, the single headband structure is cushioned with a pleather wrap though in the case of the DT 1770 PRO it is stitched in and feels more integrated than the buttoned on pleather wrap of the DT770. At a recent visit at Beyerdynamic headquarters in Heilbronn, Germany, I was surprised to have been handed an end-level prototype of the DT1770Pro which’s production was to start on the same day of my visit. Truth be told if I am not really doing any critical listening then a warm SS or tube amp is my ‘go-to’ for driving the DT 1770 PRO. Warmer, richer tones and something just to smooth out the high end provides a nice musical experience for everyday listening. These are comfortable to wear all day and all night, whether working on a music or video project. I can edit for hours and hours and hours with these, and they still feel great. Perhaps the biggest difference to note is the fact the DT770 sports non-Tesla technology, using instead the older DT drivers and of course, chiming in at a very portable worthy 32 ohms rather than the DT 1770 PRO’s more considered 250 ohms. Now you could argue that allows Beyer to tune in some excellent sub to mid-bass performance and avoid muddying the midrange and much like the A-5 Pro it keeps the low end distinct and clean allowing for rapid and accurate BPM monitoring. It's easy to damage your hearing. If your ears start ringing or buzzing, even long after you've stopped listening, cool it for a while. The DT 1770s are exceedingly well balanced across the audible spectrum. The mid range is free from audible phase shift, allowing the clarity essential for professional use. The sound stage projected into your head is as pleasurable as it is revealing.
