Description

The great thing about gin is it can be stored for years without going off, but it’s recommended to drink it within two years of opening. Even if you tightly reseal it, it’ll likely lose taste and quality if you leave it any longer. What are the different types of gin? Made by historic London wine merchants Berry Bros. & Rudd, the six-botanical spirit took two years to develop with Dr David Clutton – a man who holds a PhD in gin (yep, that exists). It was worth the effort.

Not that we have favourites but arguably our Harrington is the most distinctive and bold of them all. Warner’s – which sells a variety of spirits including Christmas Cake Gin that it recommends stirring into hot chocolate – considers the ideal serve to be a simple slice of orange and premium tonic. In addition the decoration delivers the further insight that Harrington Dry is “Best served Bold.”As part of our big gin taste test, our panel of WSET-accredited wine and spirits experts and consumers sampled 50 classic dry gins neat, and then again diluted with a small amount of water, to ensure the flavour was not impaired by any mixer.

Gin Fans, did you know you can personalise your very own bottle of Warner’s Gin! With up to 20 characters, you can customise a bottle with a message of your choice for your friends and loved ones (or even yourself!)Our Warner’s Harrington Dry Gin is best served simple, with premium tonic and a slice of orange if you’ve got one hanging about. What's the story?

You get fair warning of what to expect with Warner’s Harrington Dry Gin from the fresco on the bottle; depicting wildflower meadows, botanical gardens and beehives – all helpfully labelled in case you can’t engage with the artwork. I would say, though, the honey did not come through strongly; which is probably a good thing considering our general dislike of sweet gins. The marketing spiel says this is “gin, just as it should be”, and while marketing spiels are usually guff, this one happens to be spot on. It’s hard to find a gin simultaneously this archetypal – it’s a classic London Dry – this elegant, and this flavourful (the finish goes on and on). Whether you’re a G&T obsessive or martini connoisseur, No. 3 hits the mark every time. Though, for the record: we like it best with a slug of classic Indian tonic. There are four different types of gin: London dry gin, old Tom, Plymouth and navy strength gin. Is gin gluten-free? Personalisation is available on the following 70cl Gins; Harrington Dry Gin, London Dry Gin, Lemon Balm Gin, Honeybee Gin, Elderflower Gin, Rhubarb Gin, Raspberry Gin, Sloe Gin, Spring Blossom, Strawberry & Rose Gin and Christmas Cake Gin While gin is made from distilled grain spirit, it doesn’t contain gluten peptides and is therefore gluten-free and safe for coeliacs. The verdict: Best gin 2023
