In an ideal world, we could answer this question by referring to a list of all rums imported into the US during Tiki’s golden era. Wray and Nephew is made from a blend of pot and column still rums, and has a strong flavour profile that is characterized by notes of ripe banana, pineapple, and spice.

We’re also fortunate that Jamaica’s rum producers were prolific advertisers in the Kingston Gleaner during this era, and Gleaner back issues are extensive and available online .

The nephew, Charles James Ward, started helping the company in 1860 making it one of the most succesful businesses on the island with their rum winning various medals. First introduced by Christopher Columbus, sugarcane found its ideal growing conditions in the limestone waters and ideal climate of Jamaica. While we have taken care in preparing this summary and believe it is accurate, it is not a substitute for your reading the product packaging and label prior to use. However, there was an over-supply of Jamaican Rum after World War II, and under agreement with the Spirits Pool Association of Jamaica production was ceased in 1962.

It is these attributes that have made Jamaicans resilient since 1962 when independence from the United Kingdom was secured. The Duppy Share ensures that the Warmth, Fun, Beauty and Excitement of the Caribbean can be tasted in every drop.

On the island the rum is renowned for its use in traditional cocktails, cooking, baking, and even herbal remedies. Embrace the full strength of Wray and Nephew White Overproof Rum, the original rum of the Jamaican people that has been bottled on the Caribbean island for almost 200 years. A blend of three unaged pot still Jamaican rums, this release from Worthy Park Estate is made is 100% Pot Still distilled rum and, unlike other Jamaican rums, it was not created using Dunder pits. The General Wine Company is a family-owned and operated wine merchant in Liphook, Hampshire, England. Today’s Tiki bartenders revel in using these rums, but the recipes of the classic Tiki canon — as uncovered by Jeff “Beachbum” Berry and others — don’t use them. Please always read the labels, warnings, and directions provided with the product before using or consuming a product. You’ll find the Worthy Park Estate deep in the heart of Lluidas Vale, surrounded by mountain ranges and lush and fertile terrain. The last line in the list says: “ANY BRAND White Proof or Overproof,” which we can reasonably assume meant they were considered equivalent by the government.
