Description

S+ records using a variable bitrate. This option defines the upper limit of bitrate that can be used.

If you are using OBS Studio primarily to stream, the you will wish to set Video Bitrate to a level well within your Internet's upload speed. A good rule to follow is setting this to 80% of your upload. If you had 5000Kbps or 5Mbps as your upload speed, then setting this value to 4000Kbps would be a good starting point. Encoder Desktop Audio refers to the sound that comes out of your system. Default will attempt to use the same device as you have set for your computer. But if you have a specific setup which you don't wish to have change, you can specify a specific device. Elgato Game Capture 4K60 S+has one HDMI input, one HDMI output, one USB output, one power input, and a slot for a SD cardIf the SD card is formatted in FAT32, the recording will be split in 4GB segments. This is a limitation of the FAT32 file system. Apple put together a comprehensive guide on working with HDR video - https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT208229 This is perhaps compounded by the fact that you can't turn it off without fully unplugging it. Elgato noted to me that the 4K60S+ falls into standby mode when it hasn't been used for 15 minutes, but I found even in this mode, it would remain kind of warm, despite using only a reported 2w of power while standing by. It's not a deal-breaker by any means, but it's worth being aware of. There is a lot of options inside of OBS Studio, but not all apply to the basics of using your Elgato Game Capture HD60 S+. So, we will focus on the basics. Firstly, we need to make sure the software will be operating at the right resolution and framerate. Video A new larger window with a preview will appear (seen below). This is asking you to choose the capture device from a list and to configure it. On the Device selection, choose “ Game Capture HD60 S+”.

To truly use this capture card to its full potential, you need a 4K-ready console, 4K monitor with HDR support (not cheap), and a PC beefy enough to edit 4K HDR footage ( really not cheap). Let’s not even get into the amount of bandwidth required to upload 4K video, let alone stream it. If you didn’t wish for your Elgato Game Capture HD60 S+ to take up the whole screen, you can grab one corner and drag in towards the center to make it smaller. The Elgato 4K60 S+ is a game changer for content creation. Elgato has always been one of the leaders in game capture and streaming, bringing some fantastic products that work and are dead simple to use. From streaming, to audio, to lighting, Elgato has made a business of being the streaming gear that delivers where it needs to. With the Elgato Game Capture 4K60 S+ they have thrown the gauntlet, bringing a powerful capture solution that makes the process of creating premium content easier than ever. There is a fantastic blog post by Mystery Box which is very thorough and covers everything needed to know about editing, grading and delivering HDR using DaVinci Resolve, more than is needed to edit a gameplay video - https://www.mysterybox.us/blog/2016/10/27/hdr-video-part-5-grading-mastering-and-delivering-hdrDO NOT update firmware for any products at any time, unless Elgato Technical Support tells you to do so for specific troubleshooting purposes. Ignoring this can potentially permanently damage your device.

Hardware (NVENC) will use your system's Nvidia Video Card and will generally have a smaller impact on computer performance but may result in lower quality. Audio BitratePlease Note: Tonemapping from HDR to SDR is not supported in standalone mode. HDR will always be captured in HEVC / H.265 format. If the input to 4K60 S+ is 1080p at 30 frames per second, the recording will have a resolution of 1080p and 30 frames per second. The Encoder option refers to which part of your system will be doing the work of compressing your video for streaming or recording. Elgato Game Capture software has a Settings section, which allows users to adjust how the hardware behaves. The firmware update option was only rarely needed for the first generation of the Elgato Game Capture HD hardware, which came out a few years ago.
