At Boro’s Centre of Excellence, England training camps she attended as a teen, and when she first started at Arsenal as an adult. I found out from this book that men receive new football boots EVERY game, while women are expected to play with the same ones until they can’t anymore?

So is being a non football fan in London is hard being a female footballer is a billion times more difficult, which is what makes Beth and the other Lioness' story even more incredible. Since this book came out, Beth has been voted Sports Personality of the Year for 2022 - quite rightly, in my opinion. I really enjoyed reading this book, I could not put it down and stayed up far too late to finish it. In February 2022 she launched the Beth Mead Scholarship with Teesside University to support students who have the potential to reach a professional level in women's football.Motivational, touching, and very grounded in humanity, it's a great read that's left me excited to see what Beth does next in her football career.

And at the end of every speech and team talk, she always closes with the words: ‘Go and enjoy yourself. Now, Beth shares the challenges that shaped her, what she faced on the journey to the top, and the life events that made her stronger - from being dropped from the England squad and receiving devastating family news, to finding her best form under the guidance of Jonas Eidevall and Sarina Wiegman. Of course I loved the chapters about the 2019 World Cup, the 2022 Euros and everything England got up to in-between. I can relate to that all too well, and it was really encouraging to read that such a star player struggles with the same worries. This diary style retelling of the euros was perfect, translating the feeling of pressure Beth felt in training sessions, games and tournaments, from her experience with homesickness and shyness when she was younger to having to adapt to a post-European champion who can’t go to McDonald’s without getting recognised life. It wasn’t until the Lionesses started winning in the Euros that I started watching their training and interviews on YouTube - something that I do regularly with the men even though they share the “England” channel.
